The Disney/Fox deal may soon be wrapped up, but it will be a while before we see the Merry Mutants on the big screen, but what if we set out ruby quartz visors on the smaller side?
Currently there are two shows airing within the mutant world, which are The Gifted and Legion. Both are pretty good shows and put the audience in different world rather than the one we saw in the movies. They could go on existing without having any impact on what I have in mind. In fact clever writing can have them even exist in the same universe but chronologically apart. But that’s beside the point.
What I propose Disney do is re-introduce the mutants from scratch. Start at the true beginning, Xavier finding his first five students, and very much in line with how it happened in the comics. It would make for interesting drama with the kids. The trial and tribulations of finding their powers, finding themselves and having to deal with adolescence. This is in fact what made the series so great. I mean growing up with Scott and his inability to control his power, viewers can finally meet the real Cyclops and watch him evolve into the great leader, or his soulmate Jean as she struggles to get to grips with her immense power and trying to keep all the voices out. These are moments that can only be savored via means of a series. Only serialized tv can ever truly flesh out these characters.
The beauty of this is that once Fox is ready they can still kick of a movie version with more grown up versions of even have them transition into movies. In short they will have options, and as we know Hollywood is all about options. Origin stories are never as great as they could be in the movies simply because runtimes restrictions. A series may be the best way to slowly introduce what is essentially the third iteration of the XMEN. It will make it much easier for the audiences to accept.
Lastly with Disney about to launch their own streaming service, this could be an excellent draw card for viewers.
From where I am standing, the pro’s really do out weight the con’s if any. Only time will tell what’s in store for our beloved XMen.
