WANDAVISION: Newly Surfaced Easter Egg Reveals Early Plans For Doctor Strange In The Series

One eagle-eyed fan has spotted a big WandaVision Easter Egg which reveals what Marvel Studios originally had planned for Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange in the Disney+ series. Read on for details!

As the first Marvel Studios TV series, WandaVision was true water cooler television and a show that kept fans guessing every week. Those Mephisto rumours didn't pan out but it still delivered a satisfying conclusion which saw Wanda Maximoff finally become the Scarlet Witch.

Original plans called for Doctor Strange to appear in the mid-credits scene, though COVID and his sequel's evolving screenplay seemingly changed things. Remember, there was even a time when Strange was to be sidelined in Spider-Man: No Way Home, with America Chavez taking his place.

Again, release date changes caused by the pandemic shook things up, but a newly surfaced Easter Egg from a WandaVision making-of-special offers new insights into what left Strange on the bench.

As you can see below, Agatha Harkness was originally going to trap Monica Rambeau (in place of Ralph Bohner) in the cellar, later opening a closet door to reveal Doctor Strange inside, trapped within the Mirror Dimension.

The idea was clearly that he'd come to Westview, only to be stopped from intervening by Agatha. That makes more sense than him never showing up, but several Phase 4 projects were forced to change course by world events, with WandaVision actually pausing shooting for several months.

Kathryn Hahn will reprise her role from the Disney+ series in Agatha: Coven of Chaos, a spin-off that's expected to add Billy Maximoff to the MCU.

We'd be shocked if it doesn't also include some sort of update on the Scarlet Witch's status, though it could be a while before Agatha crosses paths with Earth-616's former Sorcerer Supreme (Wong has held the mantle since Strange vanished during The Blip).

Check out this newly discovered Easter Egg below.

@bobevanz - I can't point out that BO numbers don't mean shit to literally 99% or people? Then there's that small bit that assumes money = better

@AllsGood - Barbie is now being projected to make $110 million DOMESTICALLY this weekend. Oppenheimer is tracking at $50 million. It's going to be a huge weekend for theatres, but oh my god the top 2 movies of 2023 are going to be Mario Bros. and Barbie.

What a world.

@SATW42 - it's because the masses are mindless drones for merchandising, not that it's bad. It's a good distraction from reality lol

@bobevanz - For the record, I don't think money equals better at all. But I do think Barbie making that amount of money is definitely a story.

Potentially Barbie is going to not only be profitable for WB, it's going to cover the losses of the Flash.

That's WILD

That would have been nice. And would serve Agatha well because at the end of the day, she could probably be taken down by Ned. But if she trapped strange and Wanda, then she's quite formidable

Wouldn’t really have done anything to fix the mess the second half of that show was but I guess it would have been fun

Still think they should have simply had him show up in the mid credits scene showing up in Westview, looking around concerned, then cut.

I think Kevin Feige or the writers said said something about “not wanting to have a man show up and save the day”

OT: I really liked this show, but they did create their own mess with the way they kept teasing “Monica’s scientist friend”

The idea of America Chavez taking on a more prominent role in place of Strange is laughable. What a forgettable character.

“The idea was clearly that he'd come to Westview, only to be stopped from intervening by Agatha.”

So the Sorcerer Supreme, or as the Ancient One said,
“ Strange is meant to be the best of us,” is going to be stopped by a witch?

Why not? They were already going to make Strange weaker in Spider-Man NWH and Multiverse of Madness.
DarthOmega
DarthOmega - 7/20/2023, 11:13 AM
@TyrantBossMedia - Well they already said why they didn't want Strange there. The quote was "Some White guy to explain how her power works" Strange being there would have made total sense. But we live in a very odd time now. I wish someone had a time stone so we can go back before this nonsense started
TyrantBossMedia
TyrantBossMedia - 7/20/2023, 12:52 PM
@DarthOmega - not just they….it was Feige

“ “Some people might say, ‘Oh, it would’ve been so cool to see Doctor Strange,'” Feige said. “But it would have taken away from Wanda. We didn’t want the end of the show to be commoditized to go to the next movie — here’s the white guy, ‘Let me show you how power works.’”

@marvel72 - That actually can be marked as the beginning of the downfall of the MCU.

Barbie is gonna net 2 billion watch. Every girl that has existed since the 60's has had at least 1 Barbie doll in their lifetime. We're talking At least 3 generations of ladies will be seeing this movie world wide. Oppenheimer will still make its money but Barbie will destroy it the next couple of weekends.
TyrantBossMedia
TyrantBossMedia - 7/20/2023, 11:01 AM
@Truoptimusprime - Wait, Now it's up to $2 Billion in your opinion? Why not just say $5 Billion.

"Every girl that has existed since the 60's has had at least 1 Barbie doll in their lifetime."

EVERY GIRL that existed? That's almost as ridiculous as you projecting $2 Billion.

Every girl that existed.....
- Impoverished girls in Third World countries where they can't afford Barbies?
- Girls in Communist countries and the Soviet Union during the Cold War 60s that do not allow Western influenced products?
- Girls in Sub Saharan Africa where they don't have time to play with Barbies?
- Girls from Native tribes in South America that have never heard of Barbie?
- Young Girls who die of cancer, illnesses or accidents before they are old enough to even own a Barbie?
- Girls that are born but then die hours or minutes after birth?
- How about Girls who are tomboys and had no interest in Barbies?

You said "every girl that has existed" so.....

It would be cool to one day learn how much of the MCU changed because of COVID. I think we're still seeing some of the impact even in some of the most recent projects, but the bigger ramifications seem to be plans that were dashed or restructured because so many things getting changed around

I’ll believes it when I sees it.
Just like Dr Strange was going to cameo in WandaVision.
Seems like they don’t really want to spend extra money for the bigger name actors on the Disney+ stuff and that’s understandable.
