As the first Marvel Studios TV series, WandaVision was true water cooler television and a show that kept fans guessing every week. Those Mephisto rumours didn't pan out but it still delivered a satisfying conclusion which saw Wanda Maximoff finally become the Scarlet Witch.
Original plans called for Doctor Strange to appear in the mid-credits scene, though COVID and his sequel's evolving screenplay seemingly changed things. Remember, there was even a time when Strange was to be sidelined in Spider-Man: No Way Home, with America Chavez taking his place.
Again, release date changes caused by the pandemic shook things up, but a newly surfaced Easter Egg from a WandaVision making-of-special offers new insights into what left Strange on the bench.
As you can see below, Agatha Harkness was originally going to trap Monica Rambeau (in place of Ralph Bohner) in the cellar, later opening a closet door to reveal Doctor Strange inside, trapped within the Mirror Dimension.
The idea was clearly that he'd come to Westview, only to be stopped from intervening by Agatha. That makes more sense than him never showing up, but several Phase 4 projects were forced to change course by world events, with WandaVision actually pausing shooting for several months.
Kathryn Hahn will reprise her role from the Disney+ series in Agatha: Coven of Chaos, a spin-off that's expected to add Billy Maximoff to the MCU.
We'd be shocked if it doesn't also include some sort of update on the Scarlet Witch's status, though it could be a while before Agatha crosses paths with Earth-616's former Sorcerer Supreme (Wong has held the mantle since Strange vanished during The Blip).
