THE MANDALORIAN Executive Producer Suggests Din Djarin May Not Be The Show's Title "Mandalorian"

While we've long assumed that The Mandalorian's title refers to bounty hunter Din Djarin, executive producer Rick Famuyiwa has hinted that it might have a different meaning altogether. Check it out...

There have long been theories about what The Mandalorian's title might be referring to.

Common sense says it's a nod to lead character Din Djarin, though many fans believe Grogu is "The Mandalorian" and that we're following his journey from adorable sidekick to becoming the being that can truly reunite Mandalore. Heck, he may even be the one that combines their customs with those of the Jedi (as Tarre Vizsla once did before him).

Season 3 has largely shifted the spotlight away from those two, with the focus instead put on Bo-Katan Kryze. She's caught a glimpse of the legendary Mythosaur and had the Darksaber returned to her after being tasked by The Armorer to reunite Mandalore.

So, could Bo-Katan be "The Mandalorian"?

During an interview with Screen Rant (via SFFGazette.com) at Star Wars Celebration this weekend, executive producer and director Rick Famuyiwa addressed the theory and strongly hinted that Din is not the character the Disney+ TV show's title refers to.

"I think now with Bo possessing the Darksaber, I know that there was a lot of expectations that might have shifted both in terms of what it meant for Din Djarin, but also for Bo and what does it mean?" the filmmaker teased. "Who is the Mandalorian at this point? And so I think it could be anyone."

"And I think that's what they're trying to define in many ways, is what does that mean to be Mandalorian?"

Famuyiwa directed the final two episodes of season 3 and a select number of fans who attended Star Wars Celebration this weekend were treated to an early screening of the penultimate instalment that's since generated a lot of buzz online. A seven-minute clip from that was also shown during Lucasfilm's Studio Showcase panel which featured some major developments.

Regardless of who "The Mandalorian" may or may not be, we're sure the next couple of weeks will clear things up to some extent, especially after what we saw with the Darksaber in last Wednesday's divisive effort.

YeAh BuT CloSeD CaptiONs Say [THE MANDALORIAN] whEn Din iS TaLkinG!

I don't mind it though. Din already felt like a secondary character in previous seasons a lot to, so it's not the biggest deal now

It certainly is ending up that way, but you can't say that was the intent all along.

Just add an S to the end.

Today's episode was good but still Din is just a background character.

Is it too much to ask they give his character a proper arc? eh well. Bo Katan will do.

@UniqNo - I haven't seen today's episode yet, but I'm sure Gideon will die at the end of the season. He has nothing more to offer. The heir to the empire is the next great evil.

@Repian - There was some good jetpack action today, but it's predictable in where it went knowing the next is the season finale. Someone died at least.

Prodcution value this season has definitley seen an increase, but the writing for the most part is mid. Deffo an improvement over last week's but the bar wasn't high anyway after that trash.

I stopped watching this show, but if they get Edward James Olmos for a cameo role once Starbuck is the main character i would watch that episode.

Disney:"hey, how about we just suddenly change the focus of this series from the main character we've been following to another without warning? What could possibly go wrong?"

Sees the ratings for the series plummet

How on earth this season was thought to be a good idea I will never know. Would have been a half decent Bo Katan first season but this is not Mando season 3.

Who cares about such arbitraries?

"Ohn no, my character gets sidelined in his own show!"
First of all, he doesn't and secondly, so what?

In case you didn't get it, Andor was also about a sideline figure in his own show, that's the whole point of the character, that he's not the leading man , but a classic right hand man, like Hamilton!

At the end of the day:
Just make good content.

I'm not reading that comment to mean that someone other Din is "The Mandalorian." I'm reading that comment to mean that the title is now to be applied broadly and that the show explores what it means for anyone to be a Mandalorian and how it can differ from person to person.

Interestingly, the principle journey this season seems to be one grappling with reconciling secularism and faith and how dogma can both provide guidance and act as a barrier in reuniting people from a fractured culture. I was not expecting that.

Honestly, I can dig it. It turns Din into the "Mad Max" of the Star Wars Universe. He is a badass who gets wrapped up in the revolution, but his goal isn't necessarily the main one. Now, Din wants to take care of the child. He will continue to be the coldest mf'er in the room, even if he isn't the main character.

I called this weeks ago, Pedro is out - Katee is the new lead. They have no story for Din anymore after he let Grogu go, that was a solid two season arc. He doesn’t care about Mandlore, it’s not his quest. Bo is out new lead, her series isn’t a ‘spin-off’ her series is this moving forward. A shame, but also, I kind of like the boldness of it.

I don't know what it is about this season but... i just... i like it but i'm just not like super into it like i was with S1 and S2. S1 was sooooo epic and i loved S2 as well... idk what it is but it's just not doing it for me anymore. Maybe it's cuz of Andor, or maybe its something else but man i just feel blahhhh about this season.

Well they can do whatever they want. I’m sure the plummeting ratings can tell you what the audience thinks of this season.

On whole, Lucasfilm has very poor in-house writers, directors, choreographers, and editors.
