For the past decade, Marvel has dominated the big screen with blockbuster after blockbuster. Now, it seems the brand is keen to leave its mark on the video game industry.
With Insomniac Games having recently announced Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Marvel's Wolverine, 2K working on Marvel's Midnight Suns for 2022, and Square Enix having just released Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, we've got yet another Marvel title currently in development - which, it turns out, is being worked on by former Naughty Dog director and script writer Amy Hennig.
Hennig, who is probably best known for her work as creative director on the Uncharted series, helped form the new interactive media division at Skydance Media two years ago. At the time, we only knew she was working on a big AAA, story-driven project.
Today, Skydance lifted the curtain on the project, confirming it to be a "narrative-driven, blockbuster action-adventure game, featuring a completely original story and take on the Marvel Universe."
“I can’t imagine a better partner than Marvel for our first game,” said Hennig said in her statement. “The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience. It’s an honor to be able to tell an original story with all the humanity, complexity, and humor that makes Marvel characters so enduring and to enable our players to embody these heroes that they love.”
Unfortunately, no other details were shared in today's announcement, but Skydance New Media has assembled "an accomplished crew of developers with decades of AAA experience in action and adventure gaming, as well as a diverse team of creative consultants from the worlds of film, television, and comics."
Hennig departed Naughty Dog in 2014 to work on a Star Wars project at EA's Visceral Games. The studio was shut down in 2017 and Hennig ultimately joined Skydance Media to form the interactive division.
