A new rumor from Heroic Hollywood states that the 2017 release date recently secured for an Untitled WB Event Film is secretly for the studio's Tomb Raider reboot. Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Daisy Ridley was recently rumored to be WB's top choice for Lara Croft but a deal has yet to be finalized. The currently 'Untitled WB Event Film' is set for release on October 6, 2017 meaning that if this rumor pans out, production on the reboot will need to start very quickly. Heroic Hollywood goes on to report that the film will be titled The Tomb Raider and that producers are aiming for a Fall start date, allowing them to secure Daisy while she's in-between shooting Episode VIII and Episode IX.
Roar Uthaug will direct from a script written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet.
Do you think an announcement is immanent, confirming Daisy Ridley for the role of Lara Croft? While not impossible, it would certainly be a tight window for Ridley to shoot another blockbuster feature. That window would get even tighter if there are reshoots. What do you think of the rumor? A Tomb Raider reboot was inevitable but is Ridley right for the role?
