Variety report that Limitless and The Illusionist director Neil Burger is has been hired by Sony to both write and direct their adaptation of Naughty Dog's hit videogame (and motion comic book) Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

David O. Russell, who was recently nominated for an Oscar after directing The Fighter, left the project after some creative differences between himself and Sony. While there's no doubting his credentials as a great director, the fans were not happy with his vision for the adaptation of the series, and it would appear that the studio weren't either.

According to the site, Burger won the job after Sony and producers Avi Arad, Ari Arad, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner liked the sound of his "new take" on the movie, which Sony are now moving ahead with. At this time, it's unclear whether or not either Mark Wahlberg or Robert De Niro are still interested in starring without Russell.
