Uncharted Movie Adaptation Finally Gets A New Writer And Director!

Variety report that Limitless and The Illusionist director Neil Burger is has been hired by Sony to both write and direct their adaptation of Naughty Dog's hit videogame (and motion comic book) Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

David O. Russell, who was recently nominated for an Oscar after directing The Fighter, left the project after some creative differences between himself and Sony. While there's no doubting his credentials as a great director, the fans were not happy with his vision for the adaptation of the series, and it would appear that the studio weren't either.

According to the site, Burger won the job after Sony and producers Avi Arad, Ari Arad, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner liked the sound of his "new take" on the movie, which Sony are now moving ahead with. At this time, it's unclear whether or not either Mark Wahlberg or Robert De Niro are still interested in starring without Russell.

I loved Limitless, but I'm still more interested in story, so we'll see how this goes. All-in-all, I don't want a movie adaptation. The franchise doesn't need it 'cuz the games provide the same feel enough as it is.

Lets go new cast... Nathan Fillion and Bruce Campbell FTW!!!

These games are so good and I really want these movies to be awesome. I can not think of two better choices for Nathan and Sully. The roles are totally made for Fillion and Campbell.

Yeah go scene for scene from the game and it would be a good movie, some of these directors think they need to put there own spin on it,when they dont, when its the actually game story/characters/action etc itself that got it considered for a movie adaption anyway

I loved both the Illusionist and Limitless! So i'm happy with this....Does this mean Bradley Cooper could be our Nathan Drake?....If that's the case I'm very happy with that, he's got Drakes personality down to a T.

Just please not let it be Nathon Fillion....He's 40 now and is looking a little to old to play Drake. I always had Drake down to be in his late Twentys or early Thirtys.

Nathan Fillion was born to play this role.

Fillion looks the part but doesn't have the Star power Sony maybe looking for. Don't be shocked if Bradley Cooper is picked for the role.

Bradley Cooper For Nathan Drake he has the perfect personality and acting chops for Drake he can do smart mouthed witty quips as well as serious drama and can do action and is a bankable star at the moment.

I can't believe people are saying Nathan Fillion before Nolan North. In the film world they are both no names let's be honest but Nolan North IS NATHAN DRAKE.

Why get a no name who acts and looks a little bit like Drake when we can get a no name who is the real Nathan Drake...Nolan North

He's the guy who brought the character to life and made him popular, he even acts the scenes out with Emily Rose and Richard McGonagle so he can act, in fact he's been on old tv shows in the past.

I just think Nolan North would feel pretty down seeing people wanting Fillion instead of him, I think people are letting their Fillion fanboyness get in the way of their judgement.

I have not seen either of these movies, but I hear they are great. And I would totally love to see Bradley Cooper play Nathan Drake. Either way, I'm glad O'Russell is no longer attached to direct this movie, since it was clear he had no respect for the games.

They should get that girl from syfy's haven to play Elena... She voices her character in the game anyway and she's blond.

cooper has the attitude, fillon has the looks.

@MTL

But Joe Flanigan looks more like him than either! That and he has experience playing the character, his role on SG:A was EXACTLY how Drake should be portrayed.

looks is irrelevant imo as long as the actor somewhat resembles drake

personality and acting ability is more important

Awesome! He is a great director.

Cooper would be good Drake.
Jake Gyllenhaal would be good too.

Or Ben Affleck or David Boreanaz.

The perfect Drake would be Josh Holloway.

@rayng86 Thats what Ive been saying all along
Shes knows the character better than anyone else

I still say Josh Duhamel and Jeff Bridges for Nate and Sully

VanCityKid
VanCityKid - 7/7/2011, 3:02 PM
I still dont like the idea of this being adapated into a movie. The games play out like a film, even the trailer for Drake's Deception felt more like a movie trailer than a game trailer.

Like @N said, the characters voices are everything.
I mean can you see anyone else pulling off Nate's "Oh Crap" or Sully's "Goddamn" better than Nolan North and Richard McGonagle?

@ AlexDeLarge87. Seriously are your eyes on backwards? I really think you are straying away from finding the true person for this role. Jake Gyllenhaal?? Ben Afleck?? HEIGHT OF STUPIDITY!!!

I was playing Uncharted 2 the other day and realized Bradley Cooper is perfect for Drake, I love Nathan Fillion but Bradley Copper is more well known. I love Bruce Campbell but I think he might be a few years too young, I would cast J.K. Simmons or William Hurt as Sully.

If this is the guy that directed Limitless, then he has my vote. As long as they stick to the story from the game, none of this family crap. Limitless was a surprisingly good film IMO.
I actually think Bradley Cooper would be awesome as Nathan Drake, although he doesn't look much like Drake, he most certainly has the personality down, plus Neil Burger seems to bring out the best of his acting ability, so that'd be awesome. I also had a thought Ryan Reynolds might be able to do it, he looks more like Nathan Drake and he has a similar personality.
Cooper's better though.

Side note: The Uncharted 3 multiplayer will be epic, the beta is amazing and they're improving it every day. Can't wait for the game!

Nathan Fillion is a great choice if he can't do it get Bradley Cooper. Other than them I don't know.

please no mark wahlberg this time. And if so, better make it straight to DVD. How about giving the librarian a cinematic make-over!
