In order to tie-in with the next step of their uber profitable game series "Halo", Microsoft has just announced that it will be producing a live action web series.

The series will consist of five 15-minute shorts. Each short will depict an original story about the game's Master Chief and how they inspired a young UNSC cadet to become a leader aboard the UNSC Infinity. Apparently, the character of the cadet will feature heavily into the plot of the the game, "Halo 4".

The series itself, titled "Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn" appears to be exclusively produced by Microsoft. It will be airing on the Machinima gaming site, the same site that premiered the "Mortal Kombat Legacy" web series from last year. No release date or any other info has been given, but plans are for an upfront at this year's Comic-Con.

While "Halo" has been successfully turned into a series of comics and an anime, this is the most prolific foray for the franchise into live action territory. The success of this web series may be a deciding factor in Microsoft deciding to make another attempt to get "Halo" on the silver screen.

Are you excited for "Halo 4"? Will you watch the web series? Sound off below!

Halo 4 is the next game in the successful franchise and is to be released November 4th, 2012. The "Halo" franchise is the most successful Xbox properties, and one of the most lucrative franchises of this generation of games. Outside of games, "Halo" been adapted into comics, anime, novels, and a successful line of toys and apparel. The games have sold over 40 million copies worldwide, and all Halo merchandise combined has grossed almost $3 billion.

Hell yeah! If this is any better than the other live action shorts from a few years ago, we are in for a bad ass treat.

You could've added this pic to the article, since it's suppose to be the costume from the web series.

Not their "first foray for the franchise into live action territory." Neill Blomkamp and Peter Jackson did a Halo short for Halo 3. Each game released since has also had a live action short attached to it.
