Many gamers should remember last year's anticlimactic game, Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions.
Shattered Dimensions was NOT what most hoped for, even though it was mildly successful in the market. The game covered some new gameplay ground for Spidey, but lacked the free-world aspect that made other Spiderman games so hot (Spiderman 2: The Game comes to mind).
In Gamespot's latest podcast, Tom McShea, Tom Magrino, and Brendan Sinclair talk about the next Spiderman game. The actual podcast is well over an hour long, but about thirty minutes in is when the game comes up. Here are some highlights from the podcast:
"Did you ever play 'Prototype'? Do you know how 'Prototype' is absolutely broken in close-quarters combat? It just doesn't work? Because the game is all about sweeping huge movements and when you're close there's no precision, it's just a sloppy mess. THAT is what Spiderman was...it was fun to move around, and all of a sudden you're fighting people and it's like, 'this sucks'!"
"It has this cause-and-effect gameplay, which seems ridiculous."
"So, you've got this time-travel mechanic, where you're gonna have...Spiderman 2099 fighting a robot that's kicking his butt, and then Amazing Spiderman is at the same time fighting that robot prototype, and if he crushes the prototype then the 2099 robot gets weaker."
Amongst cracking jokes, the much ballyhooed cause-and-effect concept is not seeming to be liked so far. Even though speculation is definitley at a high, hope is also high since the developers have a year to right their wrongs. These guys in the podcast don't seem to know very much about Spiderman 2099, but the podcast is funny and interesting.
Spiderman: Edge of Time is due to be released later this fall! Follow the jump to listen to the podcast in its entirety.
The podcast also discusses a new Bloodrayne game in the works, so hearken all ye who play to hear the good news!
