Complaints Lead To WONDER WOMAN Losing UN Ambassador Title
In today's society, where being PC 'trumps' common sense, Wonder Woman just lost her UN ambassador status due to charges that her current "large-breasted, scantily clad" look sets an impossible standard.
Designating Wonder Woman an honorary United Nations ambassador was supposed to kick off a year-long, UN worldwide campaign for gender equality with the Amazon powerhouse as its champion. Back in October, a special NYC ceremony was held to mark the occasion, with Gal Gadot, Lynda Cater, director Patty Jenkins and DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson in attendance.
However, a petition was quickly circulated, decrying Wonder Woman's selection as a the representative for the campaign. A portion of the petition reads, "Although the original creators may have intended Wonder Woman to represent a strong and independent 'warrior' woman with a feminist message, the reality is that the character's current iteration is that of a large breasted, white woman of impossible proportions."
It seems their argument has won out as Wonder Woman's time as an ambassador will come to an end this Friday, whereas it was originally thought that it would extend well into 2017.
Of course, there's now a counter petition to re-instate Wonder Woman's honorary ambassador status.
DC planned to release a tie-in, one-shot comic celebrating Wonder Woman's honor and still currently intends to do so, despite the decision.
