LOGAN Screenwriter Reveals That The Movie Was Originally Going To Include A Few Scenes With Sabertooth

Unfortunately, Wolverine's most popular foe, Sabertooth, doesn't make an appearance in Logan - but during a new interview, Scott Frank reveals that the original plan was to include the character...

Though X-Men Origins Wolverine was pretty much universally reviled by fans, Liev Schreiber's take on Victor Creed/Sabertooth is generally regarded as one of the few highlights of the movie. Because of this, many hoped to see the Ray Donovan actor reprise the role for James Mangold's Logan, but, despite some early rumors getting our hopes up, it wasn't to be.

During an interview with Cinemablend, screenwriter Scott Frank was asked if bringing back Wolvie's old nemesis was ever something that was discussed, and he revealed that there actually was a plan to include Sabertooth in an early draft of the script at one point

“There was a moment when we were thinking about, as I recall, Jim [Mangold] had an idea where when they were on the run, and they go to the gambling town, there may have been at that point they were going to see [Sabertooth] for help. He was going to be there for help. Now that you mention it! I wouldn’t swear to it, but we thought that would have been an interesting thing to do. And then for whatever reason we didn’t do it.”

From the sounds of this, Creed would not have played an antagonistic role in the story, which, given the circumstances, is probably understandable.

Though it doesn't seem like the character was ever going to have a substantial part in Logan one way or the other, a scene or two like Frank describes here would have been a nice way to give some closure to the complex relationship between Wolverine and his most well-known enemy.

Logan is out now in some locations, and will hit theaters everywhere by the weekend. You can check out my review HERE.

Him and Jackman were the ONLY good parts of Origins.

Also the first act with Reynolds as Wade.

X-24 should had been Creed or a Creed clone

I adored Logan as a movie but I didn't really care for that Wolverine clone. I'd rather it was Sabertooth under the control of Weapon X.

Funny how X24 kept Victor Creed's mutton chops from Origins.

@BravoBoss - More or less it's pretty much ignored except for a brief moment in DOFP where Xavier looks through Logan's memories.
