X-MEN Producer Simon Kinberg Hints At Plans For Future Movies Based On ALPHA FLIGHT And THE EXILES
It might be a while before we see them, but X-Men producer Simon Kinberg has given us an idea of 20th Century Fox's plans for future spin-off movies, and they include Canadian superteam, Alpha Flight...
Now that Hugh Jackman is hanging up his claws, 20th Century Fox is going to be left without the main staple of the X-Men franchise. Though they do have the younger versions of the team and Deadpool to work with, the studio will also be looking to bring in some new blood to keep things fresh.
We know Josh Boone's New Mutants is on the way, and there are plans for the likes of Gambit and X-Force, but writer/producer Simon Kinberg has now given us an idea of some of the other properties we will likely see a few years down the line:
"We have a sense of where each of all of the existing characters go from Deadpool to New Mutants to the mainland X-Men movies to potentially even X-23," Kinberg said. "Then, there's other characters, like Alpha Flight, like Exiles... There's a lot of characters to mine going forward. We're still sort of in this phase where now we've completed the Wolverine story with Logan and we begin hopefully with New Mutants and eventually Gambit and continue with Deadpool."
Alpha Flight is a group of Canadian heroes with close ties to Wolverine, which includes the likes of Northstar, Puck, Snowbird and Shaman. The Exiles are a relatively new team of more obscure characters, but they do have Blink on their roster so there's some crossover potential with FOX TV's family drama, which recently cast Jamie Chung in the role.
While this doesn't mean there are concrete plans in place and these projects are going to go into development any time soon, it does provide fans with an idea of what they can expect from the X-Men saga at some point in the future.
