It was first reported by
Latino Review, that unknown actor Caleb Landry Jones is the top contender to bag the role of Sean Cassidy aka BANSHEE in the mutant prequel. And apparently it turned out to be true.
Recently announced with English actor Nicholas Hoult portraying "Beast" in 20th Century Fox's "X-Men: First Class, Variety now reports that Caleb Landry Jones WILL play the Banshee in the film. Jones, 20 years old, appeared in 'No Country for Old Men' as a minor role and can be seen in the upcoming "Last Exorcism" & in David Fincher's "The Social Network".
With those unfamiliar with the character, Banshee is an Irish mutant, whom possesses a "sonic scream," capable of harming enemies’ auditory systems and causing physical vibrations. He is named after the banshee, a legendary ghost from Irish mythology, said to possess a powerful cry, although the banshee spirit is invariably female. And while appearing in "First Class" marks the mutant's first big screen appearance, there was a small reference to the Banshee in 'X-Men 2', with his name listed on a list of names 'Mystique' scrolls through on Stryker's computer while looking for Magneto's file.
Anyhow, Caleb Landry Jones joins the roster that so far includes James McAvoy (Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Alice Eve (Emma Frost), and Nicholas Hoult (Beast). And in a story that focuses on Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr as young men, when discovering their powers for the first time, production begins soon, hitting theaters June 3rd next year.
