DARK PHOENIX Director Simon Kinberg Celebrates X-MEN Day With New Behind-The-Scenes Photos

20th Century Fox named May 13 "X-Men Day" in 2019, and while the studio's X-Men franchise has now come to and end, Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg has marked the occasion with some new BTS photos...

20th Century Fox's series of X-Men movies may have come to an end, but Simon Kinberg is still showing his support for X-Men Day by sharing some never-before-seen BTS snaps from his time working on the franchise.

Kinberg directed Dark Phoenix, but was a regular fixture as a producer on many of the previous films, and these photos also spotlight moments from the sets of First Class, The Last Stand, Apocalypse, and more.

Fox named May 13 X-Men Day back in 2019 in the build-up to Dark Phoenix's release (we're not really sure why, since Marvel's mutant heroes debuted in the pages of their own comic in September of 1963), and while that movie ultimately proved to be the final nail in the franchise's coffin, it's hard to argue with the success of the series overall.

The X-Men movies did prove to be highly divisive, and while there were some undeniable misfires (The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine), we should keep in mind that Fox also brought us the likes of Days of Future Past and Logan.

The Children of the Atom will soon (we hope, anyway) be rebooted and take their rightful place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but we have some fond memories of this first incarnation of the iconic team.

Just a reminder how grateful I am Disney has this franchise now because Fox seemed to just lose passion and creativity for the franchise. Hopefully McAvoy and Fassbender can at least reprise their respective roles.

@ModHaterSLADE - I can't see any of the actors returning. Marvel will probably want a fresh start. Maybe they can play other characters

@Hulkh8liars - I mean with the talented actors they've had for these movies that would be idea.

@KelvTwelve - That would be great if they brought them back in their fox costumes(perhaps a comic convention within the films). They can all make fun of each other's cheesy costumes before the bus they are on blows up killing them all. It would be both hilarious and symbolic of progress.

Jesus I forgot about this movie. Hell I think I almost forgot about the entire franchise, especially the young X-Men one.

@IcePyke - This was when The third act took place in The U.N. but they reshot it to the train version. Nice try Kinberg but we won't demand for the Kinberg cut.

He wasn’t exactly a good influence on the franchise, but man.. seeing those BTS pics made me realize just how much I miss that world.

I’m probably the only one here who’d say this, but I’d trade any MCU X-Men film over having that Logan sequel with X-23

Dark Phoenix wasn't a total wash. Maybe it was just my low expectations, but I think it was a better Phoenix movie than X3.

The dude was terrible as a director but it’s hard to deny some of the great x-men movies that came out with him as producer. The Wolverine, first class, days of future past, Deadpool 1 and 2, and Logan all were worthy entries

Looking forward to the x-men future in the MCU but people are too hard on this guy.
