Channing Tatum Says He'd Like To "Change The Superhero Movie" With GAMBIT

Although Channing Tatum still hasn't been officially announced as the 'Ragin Cajun' in Fox's X-Men Universe, he definitely has a lot of ideas about what he'd like to do with the character.

Even though producer Lauren Shuler Donner seems pretty certain that she's found her new Gambit in Channing Tatum, the actor still hasn't officially signed on to play the role -- though while talking to MTV he admits that things are starting to "chug forward". Rumors suggested that should Tatum sign on, that he'd appear as Remy LeBeau in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, but it sounds as if the conversation has actually been leaning towards a solo outing for the card-charging mutant first.

“I’ve been pretty vocal about wanting to be the part of Gambit for a very long time. It's a weird, pinching-myself moment that we're even having the conversation. We've talked about it being a standalone, first, and actually trying to change the ‘hero, superhero movie.’ Because Gambit is not your typical hero. He’s a thief. He walks on the gray. I’m hoping we can change it a little bit, and then ultimately feather into the other ones.”

That's all very well, but could Gambit sustain his own solo adventure? The character was pretty popular at one point, but over the years many fans began to consider him a bit of a one-trick pony. Still, I guess it's all about how he's presented on screen. Do you guys think Tatum is right for the role? Is Gambit the character to "change the superhero movie" landscape? Sound off below.

Yeah, I'm cool with him being Gambit too. Looking forward towards seeing his take on the character. And it's cool that he knows a few characteristics of the character as well.

It's about time that Fox tries to make an actual superhero flick.

Tatum makes the Apocalypse cast seem awkward IMO. Hope for the best though...

Wait... something isn't right... all Tatum ever says about Gambit is "Gambit was the only superhero I really followed.… He was the most real to me. He just looked cool to me. I've always loved him."

Marc Webb spread his legs when people didn't like Shailene Woodley as MJ. So the internet does have an ounce of power.

An ounce.

Nope, not with Fox he won't. I'll be happy to admit I was wrong if that's the case but as for now, nah.

Did @thewonderer call people trolls when he one of the notorious trolls on this site? What the HELL has he been sipping on?lol

Anyway, I think Gambit can sustain a few solo films. He's one of the few X-Characters that can.

"Not a huge fan of Channing, but I'd check it out. Also not a huge fan of Fox's X-verse. I've enjoyed each movie, but IMO only X2 and FC were great. DOFP was fun, but outside of the Quicksilver scene, forgettable. No emotional weight."

Amen.

"Stop arguing, start talking about how there needs to be another X-Men movie in the present day."

Why? I think the movies being period peices is awesome.

If I had to make a stand-alone Fantastic Four movie for instance...I would set it in the 70 like the original books. Have Reed blast into space because he wants to beat to do it before the Ruskies.
Id have Jhonny Storm call people Daddy O and all the men on the street wear trenchcoats and hats Mad Men style.

But thats just me...Im one of the 1% who liked The First Avenger just a hair more than The Winter Soldier. And one of the reasons was because it was a period piece.
