Hugh Jackman Says He's "99.9%" Sure WOLVERINE 3 Will Be His Last Time Playing Logan

Of course, Jackman has said similar in the past..but while speaking to SFX he comes across like he might just mean it this time. Also, he reveals that he and director Jim Mangold are looking at the Old Man Logan arc for possible plot inspiration for Wolverine 3.

We know that James Mangold is on board for another solo Wolverine outing, but the man who would reprise that role for a record eight time is still insisting that he hasn't signed on the dotted line yet. He does sound pretty positive about it however, and while speaking to SFX magazine Jackman responds to a question about where he'd like to take the character by admitting that if he does return, it may well be his last time donning the claws and sideburns. "I don’t know yet. We’re talking it through. I still am very ambitious for the character. And tonally I feel like we corrected the ship with the last one. But I feel we can still go further, in a way. If I did another one I’m 99.9% sure it would be the last, so that will inform what it is for me." The Aussie actor also says he's pretty sure the next flick would not be set in Japan, and most interestingly names Mark Miller's Old Man Logan run as a possible plot for the third movie. "Of course we’re looking at Old Man Logan, because that may be the only option left at this point! [laughs] We are looking at a lot of different storylines. No one has jumped out. You can tell from my answer that we’re still working it out." Obviously it'd have to be a pretty loose adaptation of that story, considering the majority of supporting characters are under the Marvel Studios umbrella! You can complain about how much Wolverine in the films are different than the one in the comics, but the amount of dedication, work, and excitement Jackman has put into the role is astonishing.

Please NO to "Old Man Logan" not going to call the idea dumb at all but too many people are blowing up that film idea that would just be way too much of a far stretch. People say "Ahh, just change the MCU characters to Mutants! " but complain whenever studios don't follow the source material?! Do it right (whenever the rights revert back) or don't do it at all!!! Better yet, just make a animated film out of it. I'm sure Frank Miller would be cool with it.

-Return of Weapon X (Omega Red, Lady Deathstrike, Sabretooth)
-Alpha Flight
-Weapon X remake (set shortly after the events of DoFP)

Seems like whatever happens in Apocalypse will be the "real" end of the character. Or perhaps they'll recast or find a way to make sense out of Wolverine looking different. IF he becomes a possible Horseman of Apocalypse they could use that as a way to shift the way he looks without just boldly throwing in another actor out of nowhere (Don Cheadle, Mark Ruffalo) they did a great job with what they were given but I hate it when studios do that. Even in the Dark Knight when the recast Katie Holmes character...smh

It's either they'll do that or just reboot his character with a new actor after X-Men: Apocalypse.

@BruceLeroy

Agreed.

I hope they set DOFP as the second film (First Class being the beginning) in this new universe, bringing the First Class cast into the future and letting them loose. While, at the same time the new FF can already be set in place and ready to go by at least 2017-18 for a cross over.

Something at least along these lines to make it feel more like world in which characters like Deadpool and Cable can inhabit as well.

I think they're referring to the Wolverine sequel as being the 3rd wolverine movie. Origins can still count (beginning wise) before they get into the 70's/80's I guess...

@DaVinci31

I thought about the X-Men being somehow transported to our modern timeline with the young DoFP cast as well but how they could possibly do it would have to be done in a smart way. When I first thought about it I said have the Fantastic 4 be somehow incorporated with how they end up in our modern timeline (negative zone and different dimensions and etc) But I think they might just reboot the franchise with a new cast after everything's wrapped in Apocalypse.

Obviously Wolverine 3 means the third solo Wolverine movie! Hating Origins isn't going to magically erase it from existence!

@yossarian

James Mangold said that he would like for the sequel to the Wolverine to take place in between the 2 years him and Yukio were gone aboard the plane. So I'm assuming that it'll still be set within the old timeline and not play canon from or to Apocalypse.

Hey Hugh, I heard DC/WB is developing a lot of comicbook movies. I bet there's a role for you in there.

Time to abandon FOX and their fake X-Men!!!

Awesome. Jackman is incredible as Logan. And him and Mangold managed to make a film that was, for me, better than the Avengers. I can't wait to see them top it. Hugh is the man.

I wanna see Omega Red... Or maybe they do a future tale with Daken...?
