Taron Egerton Did Pitch Marvel Studios On Playing A Certain Character - But It Wasn't WOLVERINE

Taron Egerton remains a fan-favorite pick to play Wolverine in the MCU, but the Kingsman actor has now revealed that he actually pitched the studio on potentially portraying a different character...

Last year, Taron Egerton (Kingsman, Black Bird) revealed that he did meet with Marvel Studios about a potential role amid rumors that he might be in line to take over from Hugh Jackman as the MCU's new Wolverine.

Egerton declined to reveal whether this was accurate at the time, but has now clarified that the character he pitched them on was not Logan.

Unfortunately, he didn't name this mysterious hero or villain, but whoever it was, he feels he's now aged out of the role.

"Well, the one that I mentioned is up for grabs, but I’m too old for it now. I think that ship has probably sailed," he told Total Film.

Egerton is only 33, which would suggest that this character is usually depicted as quite a bit younger, possibly even a teenager. The actor's comments indicate that we have yet to see them in the MCU, but that's not exactly a lot to go on.

It's probably moot now, anyway, and it sounds like he's also lost any interest he may have had in pursuing Wolverine.

"I’m not going to be the guy to play Wolverine. There’s no signs pointing towards that being the thing. And I just don’t know if I’m... maybe I’m getting to the point where that’s not what I want any more. I don’t know. I’d never say never, and I do love those movies. I’ve really enjoyed watching them over the past 10, 15 years. But whether I... You know, it may not be that they’re the right thing for me any more. I think maybe I’m past the point where that felt like the right thing [for my career]."

Jackman is set to return as Wolverine for Deadpool 3, and might well stick around in the MCU afterwards, so it might be a while before a new take on the mutant berserker is cast.

If and when it does happen, would you like to see Egerton don the claws, or do you have another actor in mind?

Cast a bunch of 20 year old unknowns, don't waste budget on big names who don't want to be locked in for 10 years lol

@bobevanz - I agree for everyone BUT Wolverine. Unless you can find a late 20s guy who has aged hard.

In my mind Wolverine is weathered, physically and emotionally. He’s lived a long time. He’s tired and grouchy

@CorndogBurglar - and to be honest, if they did a Krasinski/Blunt Reed and Sue (I know, they're not) Taron would be about the right age for that version of Johnny.

At this point Wolverine casts too big a shadow over the X-Men casting and eventual MCU debut. I kind of hope the introduce the X-Men without Wolverine (maybe just original team), and then add Wolverine in later.

@bkmeijer1 - Thats actually how I would end my MCU X-Men series.

After finally beating Onslaught and bringing humans and mutants together and the series is ending, some normal looking dude in an X-Men uniform walks into the room and everyone is like, who are you? And he's like, "I'm Forgetmenot. I've been here the whole time. I helped you beat the Sentinels, Magneto, Apocalypse, Sinister....I went to space with you guys and we fought the Brood, The Imperial Guard, and the Dark Phoenix."

And all the X-Men and even the viewers are like, "what is he talking about?"
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 3/3/2023, 9:56 AM
@CorndogBurglar - that would be pretty funny. But they would need to set that up beforehand, like having more bad guys being defeated that we saw heroes visibly do so. Indicating that there was an extra guy.

Also, I kinda figured Apocalypse would be your final big bad. A villain like Onslaught would be cool though. Same with Cassandra Nova.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 3/3/2023, 10:37 AM
@bkmeijer1 - Apocalypse is the phase 1 badguy. After that I'd have them go to space for the Brood and shi ar.

Then I would have them back on earth for Bishop's Crossing and the return of Cable, which would spin off an X-Force series.

Then Magneto's return which would lay the foundation for Onslaught by having Xavier mind wipe Magneto.

Then Onslaught. Which would tie back to Bishop's Crossing where he told the story of an X-Traiter and how the X-Men were all killed. In Bishop's Crossing he would have a broken up recording of Jean sending a distress call to the F4 and Avengers, and that they were betrayed. We would see her die on screen without knowing who killed her. The Onslaught would begin with that footage from future playing out in the current time and we find out the trailer was a mind corrupted Xavier from when he mind wiped Magneto.

That's about as far as I've gotten. I would have to organize it as these all just basic ideas.

@CorndogBurglar - guessing we'll find out more about it in Part 4 of your series then, because this is a lot.

I kinda wanna see them go to space earlier though, but that might also be because I really just wanna see the Starjammers.

@CorndogBurglar -

I remember reading this and the way they teased it for years, only to find out to that Onslaught was Xavier the whole time. *chills*
