Source: WHY I THINK X MEN FIRST CLASS BOMB

1.The last two movies were major disapointments because of this people may think this movie will be no different.

2.The source material is poor for this movie ie Jean and Cyclops are not present in this movie but they were part of the original team in the comics also Havok is in this movie and he should't because he is Cyclops little brother and Cyclops isn't even alive in this movie. These changes will upset fans of the comics and might force them to boycot this movie.

3.Continuity is a major problem in this movie and the film series overall now I now Brian Singer said that this movie ignores origins but it still does't change the issues with the last stand, the very beginning of the movie Xavier and Eric go Jeans house but this takes place in the 80's and there still friends and its said they will become enemies at the end of First Class, this will confuse fans of the comics and the films in alike in general.

4.FOX(thanks nucro for the reminder)is one of the major problems even if people like the look of this movie(and im sure most of you do)they might worry that this movie will be the same as there other comic book movies eg.daredvil, both fantastic four movies the last two x men movies and so fourth and lets be honest all those movies suck,so people might be afraid to see this movie becuse of there other cbm.

I feel the 2nd point is of no great interest to the studio. It may be a cmb but the general audience will not know of its difference from the source material.
In future articles double check your spelling and punctuation because some of that was hard to read.

Yup these are all points of concern that has been expressed many times over.

Also his being your 1st article should give you the more reason to take your time and present something of quality..people use "this is my 1st article" as a crutch

lol honestly some folks on here dont care if its your 1st time..they can be harsh..

So if your putting something together from your own opinion and its not news that you think someone may get to 1st..just take your time.

SN: I dont think people will boycott..regaurdless what ppl say about
x-men @ some point out of curiousity they will see this film...especially if they are true comic fans..

BIGBMH - 5/24/2011, 11:05 AM
Other than the first point, this is less about why the movie may be unsuccessful than why the fan community may not like it. While a lot of people are talking about the things they don't like about FC, they're still mostly going to see it. The fan community really isn't that significant compared to general audiences, so even if fans hate it, it can still make money. They've been advertising a good bit, and what they've shown seem like it will be able to draw a decent crowd. The only thing that could really cause it to bomb is if the movie sucks as a stand alone movie so it's unenjoyable for general audiences and word of mouth/ critical reception kills it.

yankeemanf - 5/24/2011, 11:05 AM
i do understand ur points but they wont make the movie bomb cuz if it bombs that means that not even the general audience will see it or like it but this wont be the case cuz every x-men movie made so far idc who u r was entertaining at least a lil bit and the trailer and cst and director make this movie look amazing and i think it will be amazing cuz of these aspects as well
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 5/24/2011, 11:29 AM
other continuity problems:

1. beast gets his blue fur, but in X2 he doesn't have it.

2. Emma is a grown woman, but in Wolverine teenager

3. Havok is Cyclops's younger brother and the film takes place in the 60's. So that makes Cyclops AT LEAST in his 50's during the other x-films.

The bottom line is, there is no chance in hell this movie will bomb. non-comic fans will eat this movie up, simply because they don't know any better, and surprisingly, there are a lot of comic fans who still want to see it, regardless of all continuity issues. i suppose those people just don't care about good movie making, and keeping the continuity correct.

Also, yes, X3 and Origins were terrible movies...to us comic fans. unfortunately, most of the general public liked them.

The last two points won't have any effects, the only thing that can make it bomb is your first point people might not want to see it after two disappointing movies. and Honestly doesn't matter how many of us comic book fans boycott this movie it won't make much of a difference were the small minority, the general movie goers decide the fate of the movies. If we did have power then movies like watchmen and kick ass would have made a shit ton of money but we don't. Any ways good attempt at first article.

thats my problem with the film,no respect to the source & its own movie continuity.

it won't bomb,it'll probably gross the most money out of all the comic book movies out this year.

@ corndogburglar

the age difference between moria mctaggert in first class & in x-men 3,they both look the same age.

i also believe they've got a scene featuring stryker in first class & he looks the same age as he does in x-men 2.

I think most of the people who were worried about this before don't seem to care now, as we've mostly accepted the film looks like it could be the best in the series so far. It has a lot of potential.

Also, you should check your spelling, grammar and punctuation in the future.
Here's a tip: If you have Microsoft Word or similar programs on your computer, try typing the article out in that first, to use the spell check, grammer correction and stuff first. Then just copy and paste it into the article, so everything's right. It makes it a lot easier for us to read and it makes you look better as a contributer.

@marvel72 it wouldn't be William Stryker, it's a different character. In fact, it sounded like he said Stricker to me, or Strucker, which could be a reference to Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker (although it's not likely since Marvel got the rights to HYDRA). It's one thing with Moira, she was a minor, forgettable character in the worst X-Men film so far (The Last Stand) so it's not so bad in this film. Maybe I accept it because I like to think X3 never happened. But Stryker was a major character in X2 and very important in the origin of Wolverine, regardless of whether X-Men: Origins is in continuity or not anymore, and I doubt FOX are that stupid.
Actually yeah, FOX are that stupid, but Matthew Vaughn isn't stupid, he wouldn't do that. Even Bryan Singer is smart enough to not reuse important characters in instances which make no sense.
I have to say though, one of my main gripes about this film was the inclusion of Moira anyway, and is one of the things I still don't like about this otherwise promising film.

Sketchee
Sketchee - 5/24/2011, 3:19 PM
Let's remember, that despite issues that some fans have with the last two movies they did very well financially.

X-Men Origins Wolverine, from Wikipedia: "The earnings placed the film as the 16th highest-grossing opening day ever (22nd with ticket-price inflation).[103] It went on to be number one film at the box office with a total of $85 million.[105][106] Among summer kick-offs, it ranked fifth behind Spider-Man, X2, Spider-Man 3, and Iron Man"

For X-Men The Last Stand, "X-Men: The Last Stand was released in the United States on May 26, 2006 in 3,690 theaters, earning $102,750,665 in its opening weekend,[55] which was a new Memorial day weekend record.[56] The film's release was also a new single-day record for Friday openings."

So yeah, if it bombs it would be the first X-Men movie to do so. Not likely with the reviews. Sorry, no X-Men movie has yet bombed even the ones that we all liked the least.

i am sick of all the ppl one here complaining about continuity tho....in comix no1 complains when continuity changes but in a movie its such a terrible thing apparently...i mean its a diff director and writer jus like when a new writer goes to a comic he mite change certain things... y is it different for this movie? and plus the continuity shouldnt matter could it was described by the matthew vaughn as not necessarily a reboot but a movie in terms of how star trek did it where they can change continuity
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 5/25/2011, 5:00 AM
@ banekill

the image inducer is the only excuse people have for it, but they've NEVER mentioned that thing exists in the movies. haven't even hinted at it. so you can't use that as a genuine excuse, especially with all the changes between the movies and comics.

@corndog burglar gotta say I hated X3 even when I wasn't into comics, couldnt stand that film, at the point when Prof X died I refused to pay any attention to the rest of the film, and just cried myself to sleep in the theatre. OK maybe I didn't cry my self to sleep, but I refused to watch the rest. Point is, I was part of the general audience back then, and I just thought the film was complete shit.
But you can't say anything about good movie making because no one has seen the film, and film making is not merited by how faithful it is to a comic. Movie making is merited by narrative, acting, and directing, and maybe score. If there were continuity discrepancies within the film, like something happening at the beginning like the mansion blowing up and the mansion being completely rebuilt in the next scene, then fair enough. But film making isnt even measured through continuity within a franchise.
Take the Spider-Man films. In Spider-Man 1, Peter mentions being fired from his job by Dr Conners, and JJ asks for 'Eddie' which is a nod to Eddie Brock. Spider-Man 2 shows Dr Conners to be Peter's college professor, and Spider-Man 3 shows Eddie Brock getting his job at the Bugle and meeting JJ for the first time, and those films are linked closer than First Class is to X-Men 1.

&@Lee we could say that you're blinded by your hatred of FOX that you've already dismissed this film without giving it a chance. FOX, while most of their films are generally shit, have produced a few gems in the past.
X-Men 1 and 2 were pretty good films, and you forget FOX also distributed one of the most famous film series' ever made: Star Wars.
If the film sucks, then you were right, but even if on the day it's released, 90% of the people on this site who bother to watch the film say it's great, you still wouldn't bother going to see it, and would continue to degrade it despite never seeing it and all the positive stuff that seems to be heard about it.
AC1
AC1 - 5/25/2011, 6:53 AM
Also, I think this film may be some kind of Pre-boot or something, like how Incredible Hulk was originally gunna be a Re-quel to Ang Lee's Hulk (a reboot with elements of a sequel) I think this may be a prequel with elements of a reboot, since most of the continuity doesnt add up but Wolverine's apparently in the film in a cameo, with Hugh still playing him, and the whole promo-campaign has focussed on the old trilogy.

@ Yankeeman

First of all, the comics have over 50 years of continuity to deal with, and literally hundreds of different writers over the years that have put their own spin on stories. so yes, continuity issues are expected. but at least in the comics, anytime something in the continuity changes, they give a reason/explanation for it.

there are only 3 x-men movies, (supposedly the Wolverine movie doesn't count in First Class) and you're telling me that Bryan Singer can't even follow his own continuity, that he himself set? come on, man, you have to admit thats a little ridiculous.

"it was described by the matthew vaughn as not necessarily a reboot but a movie in terms of how star trek did it where they can change continuity"

you're right about that, he did say that, but at least in Star Trek there was an actual time changing event that changed the continuity. this is just changing continuity for the sake of changing it.

@ Acira

I completely agree, its not fair to say changes in the movies from the comics are continuity problems. they are two different worlds. i think you might have misunderstood me. I'm saying that First Class doesn't follow its own movie universe continuity that was set by the previous x-films.

@Corndogburglar oh right, I get you. Yeah well, couldn't really expect FOX to get that right, I'm just saying I think this movie could be good, I still don't like FOX, I just dont mind some of their X-Men films.

@corndogburglar how do u kno there isnt a time changing event u dont kno and singer didnt write the movie tho he is producing it which means he can have like zero part in the movie look at batman forever burton produced and the continuity changed with two face and the feel changed totally
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 5/26/2011, 4:58 AM
@ yankeeman

i guess there COULD be a time changing event, i just think its a little ridiculous to think that with all the other spoilers we've seen, especially now, that we would have heard about it. just look at the main page, its loaded with First Class stuff. There's no way we wouldn't have heard about it by now. With Star Trek, we knew exactly what we were getting. with this, you would think they would want everyone to know there's some kind of time change happening, that way so many people wouldn't be hating on it and refusing to go see it.

also, Singer seems to have a lot to do with this. just about every article that mentions Vaughn's work on it also mentions him working alongside Singer. Singer obviously has his hands in the Kool Aid.
