There have been quite a few actors rumored for this role over the past few months and Armie seemed to always show up on the lists, and it seems like he beat out the competition for the title role in the adaption of this classic character.

The folks over at Variety have just revealed that the Gossip Girl, and Social Network star Armie Hammer has officially signed on to star in the Jerry Bruckheimer film adaption of The Lone Ranger.

It's "Hi-ho, Silver! Away!" for Armie Hammer, with the thesp finalizing a deal to saddle up as the masked Texas Ranger in Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer's adaptation of "The Lone Ranger" opposite Johnny Depp's Tonto.


The Lone Ranger adaption stars Armie Hammer as The Lone Ranger, Johnny Depp as Tonto, and is being directed by Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer and is expected for a 2012 release.
