Ernie Hudson - who stars alongside Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd in the first two Ghostbuster films - has spoken about the film's status, the script, and even rumors surrounding the project. He says the following:

"I haven't seen anybody with any money, but I hear it's happening, and I've been reading all the press stuff, and the fans have been telling me that it's on," Hudson said.

Ivan Reitman, who directed and produced the first two Ghostbusters movies, told The Hollywood Reporter last month that it's likely to be his next directorial project.

"There's a very good script that the other cast members have read and liked," he said. "We're just waiting for Bill Murray to read it."

Ghostbusters 3 is scheduled to be released sometime in 2012.

Well in terms of how trilogies go they already got the bad one out of the way. GB2 had some good moments, but ultimately it stands among movies like Spider-Man 3, X-Men 3, Matrix Revolutions, Godfather Part III (ok, it wasn't THAT bad).. you get the point.
Maaaaaaaaybe, just maybe, this new movie will blow our minds and be the sequel we should've gotten just over 20 years ago.
I'm an optimist :P

But yeah someone needs to put a gun to Murry's head and make him read that script. Damn.

lol @fartman. Well, that'd be an article in itself.. but to sum it up, the Wachowski brothers didn't seem to know where they were going with the story and went too far with the ambiguity. Also, I think that the loss of certain characters due to actors not coming back (or dying) really messed things up as they had to scramble to re-write and fit the story accordingly. That's almost never good for a movie or tv show.
The ending of Revolutions with the Oracle, the kid, and the KFC guy in the park was just crap.

Does "Highlander" ring a bell. Or do you recall "Never Ending Story". Maaaaaaaybe, the only Ghost Buster movie worth watching is the first!

@soaponarope
Yep. That's because Winston maybe is the only guy that has a stable personality. But then again we still love the rest of the guys coz they are the ones that make us laugh.

Anyhow does anybody still recall the "original ghostbusters"? You know instead of Winston, Rey, Egon and Peter the team consists of Kong ,Tracy and Spencer (the Gorilla) ? They were the first GB team I watched on TV back in the 70's. ALthough I do admit I prefer the 80's version than the original ghostbusters I wonder if this two Ghostbusters team would ever meet?

The movie I've been waiting my whole life for. This will be one of the top three things on my bucket list. I can't wait, it is the pinnacle of all things interesting to me, the top tier moment, the crowning achievement, to one day be able to see and experience this movie, it's a truly amazing thing to be able to see something like that so close to being made, if the time comes ever again one day to see one moment like this, nothing still could or even would compare to how I feel about this movie!

I love and still enjoy watching the first two Ghostbusters movies, but its been almost 20 years since the 2nd one came out. IMO if they really wanted to do a 3rd one it would've happen in the late 90's. Everyone is old and are working on different projects now. I say just leave Ghostbusters alone while the franchise left on a good note. Why can't some people be happy that the video game is the closet thing to a part 3 we will ever get, because they brought the original cast to do the voices for the video game for the fans. If they do decide to go in production for a 3rd movie I say be careful what we all wish for because its more possible that we won't be happy with it.

I wouldn't go that far, but to see it made it the age of cgi, would be sweet!! I just hope they don't f up a franchise that's clearly in my top 20 favorite comedies.

Hey I'm all for it. In fact impatiently so. But, here's a question to throw out there...how many of you would be interested in a WELL DONE and properly done Ghostbusters in 3D? And I don't mean the cheesey "conversion crap".

I don't know about you folks, but, I think that would be a dang fun version IF done properly.
Just my two bits...

Good point, some movies should be left as one-shot deals. I was just thinking about the patterns trilogies tend to set, and how GB seemed to have covered the bad apple already ;P
However it also occured to me that franchises trying to resurrect themselves roughly 20 years later has been tried before and failed miserably (Indiana Jones 4 anyone?) sooo yeah, maybe it's a good thing if the project never gets off the ground.

@marvel72, a third gremlins movie would be so awesome!

@the7percentsolution, thank you! finally somebody mentions Indi 4: the rape of the franchise. I love ghostbusters to death, but i'm truely scared they'll ruïn this one.

@Rodimus9, I know what your saying, and along with everyone else.. See, I always play it cool with everything else, but this is my lifelong dream, bigger then starring in a film, bigger then winning a wrestling world championship, far greater then anything.. I've been obsessed with the possibility of Ghostbusters 3 since I was three years old! It means that much to me! I used to study acting even as a child, and Bill Murray was my number one inspiration when doing so as a kid, now it's sort of pissing me off, he's stomping at the roots of a lot of people's dreams out there, ESPECIALLY mine.. at this point, I just want the film, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY, I NEED a third Ghostbusters film! My family, friends, girlfriend, even other people who grew up with me, they all know, this is one thing I've ALWAYS looked forward to. Oh, and my apologies for getting a bit intense here.. it's just the rush of updates and rumors is a bit frustrating and nerve-wrecking..

Interesting, Ernie Hudson knows only of rumors, but no one from the cast or crew have talked to him personally, that's really odd.

I think Bill Murray is afraid of reading the script. If he doesn't like it, he knows he'll be holding up the whole thing, again.

I think the Ghosbusters franchise, well at least the movies, deserves to end on a high note, as opposed to just ending with the second film(which we all know wasn't nearly as good as the first).
GusGalaxy
GusGalaxy - 4/27/2011, 7:46 PM
I really don't understand all the GB2 hate, I respect everyone's opinion, but it just mystifies me that it's hated so much to the degree that people think of it as a true atrocity, disaster, abomination, etc.. the list is endless. I happen to think it's on par with just about every other Ghostbusters medium out there, including the legendary first movie. I mean, for God's sakes, it's not something as wretched as Smokin' Aces 2.
