Check Out Tom Hardy's Response To A Sexist MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Question

During the Cannes Film Festival's Mad Max: Fury Road press conference, one journalist asked Tom Hardy a rather silly question about being "outgunned by oestrogen" while shooting the film.

Because of its many strong female characters and the fact that Charlize Theron's Furiosa pretty much takes center stage from Tom Hardy's titular Road Warrior, George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road is being hailed as a "feminist blockbuster". This hasn't gone down too well with MRAs (lol), and has led to quite a few idiotic questions during the movie's press circuit. One such question was aimed at Tom Hardy earlier this month at Cannes. Skip to the 9:45 mark to hear it, and Hardy's response.

Peter Howell: I have a question for Tom Hardy. Tom, I’ll preface my remarks by saying that I have five sisters, a wife, a daughter, and a mother so I know what it’s like to be outgunned by estrogen. But I just wanted to ask you, as you were reading the script, did you ever think, “Why are all these women in here? I thought this was supposed to be a man’s movie?”

Tom Hardy: No. [audience laughs] Not for one minute.

Charlize Theron: Good for you.

Tom Hardy: That’s kind of obvious. But like, but also in reference to the concept of having a script, that would have been nice. [director George Miller pats him on the back] That was more of a concern.

Charlize Theron: That was a luxury we didn’t have.

The much-discussed lack of a script is what led to some on-set clashes between Miller and Hardy, something the latter has since apologized for. Do you view Mad Max: Fury Road as a feminist film? Or is it just a film that happens to have some strong women in it?

I honestly was fine with what we got in the film. Sure, seeing a bit more of Max would've been cool, but I liked how Miller introduced all the other characters so well in this movie. I thought the way Max and Furiosa played off of each other was one of the highlights of the film....

I actually want to see this movie again....

I would love to see Tom Hardy as Punisher.

The only issue is I feel like it's gonna be a Netflix thing, and he's probably too big for that.

So an action film with lots af women is a feminist call-to-arms, and one dominated by men is a testosterone orgy. F#ing labels. Man, it's entertainment. Just enjoy the damn movie already.

Miller knows how to explain a film so elegantly.

What's funny is that MRA's declared the film "feminist" before actual feminists. It's hilarious. God forbid a woman is seen as an equal on film.

Hey now. Men's rights are an important issue. Why is it that men aren't allowed in certain places but women are?

^^^ That's bullshit and you guys know it!

This is total click baiting.

All manufactured rage over "issues" that don't even exist.

Next, lets say there is a group of people who hate the young and want to oppress them, then when a movie has young people in it we can pretend this group is really upset about it! It'll generate so many clicks!

I get sick of this shit all over the web, why do you have to bring it here? This has nothing to do with comic book movies.

Not to be that guy or anything because I've heard this film is absolutely amazing, but why in the world are we writing articles about a Mad Max movie on a website called Comicbookmovie.com?

Movie was awesome. One thing I liked was that they had strong female characters, and they still embraced feminism. It wasn't about how much like a man any of these women were. Charlize was boss in this. Her feminism was where he strength came from.

Yes, the term "sexism" is being given a pretty broad definition of late.

Surprised people here weren't complaining about the percentage of screen time the titular character received compared to the bigger star.

MRA's have absolutely nothing against this film. Stop spreading this misinformation.

Return Of Kings is a website for pick up artist and it even says on their website that they hate MRA's just as much as they hate Feminist.

Seriously I never felt it was a feminist movie, I just saw an awesome action masterpiece. And Tom Hardy is class act, probably my most favorite actor right now.
