Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were two massive movies, so it's hardly surprising that there were a lot of big ideas thrown around. Some were shot and cut from the final product, while others never got any further than the concept art stage. A couple of years ago, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said there might be artwork of a scene with Thanos holding Captain America's decapitated head. Now, it appears to have finally found its way online, and it...is...brutal.
As you can see below, it depicts a victorious Mad Titan sitting on a throne of skulls with Steve Rogers' head in hand. Thor and Iron Man are both dead at his feet, as is Giant-Man in the background.
Avengers: Endgame co-writer Stephen McFeely previously revealed, "One of the ideas was that [Nebula] opens a time rift, [Thanos] walks through from 2014 Earth, where he's already gone and laid waste to the whole place. And so our heroes come out of the dust, they see this figure walking toward them, he crosses from light to dark or whatever, and it's Thanos, and he tosses something at their feet," he explained. "And it rolls and lands at Steve's feet, and it's his own head."
Co-director Joe Russo would later elaborate on why the scene was never shot, saying: "The four of us sat in a room for months going, 'How do we make Captain America's severed head work? We can't figure out where we go once he throws his head at his feet, where does the story go?'"
This would have been quite something, but it's easy enough to understand why it might not have worked in a movie that was already dealing with time-travel and the Multiverse. Still, this art offers an idea of what the scene would have entailed and further establishes Thanos as a terrifying threat.
