Fancast: Guardians of the Galaxy

Check out my cast for Marvel's new 2014 movie, Guardians of the Galaxy!!

First off, I have to say that I haven't read one issue of Guardians of the Galaxy. That's because ever since Civil War and One More Day, I've been turned off from Marvel (and a big [frick] you to Joe Quesada, you douche bag). Anyway, I had plan on doing Guardians cast way before Marvel announced that their 2014 movie will be Guardians of the Galaxy, so this is pretty much a coincidence. I'd also like to give a big thanks to CBM Users DDD, tweeeeenkies3, and Robert Garlan for helping me with this cast!!

Anyway, here's the cast, enjoy!!

Heroes:

Jim Caviezel (Person of Interest, Transit) as Peter Quill/Star Lord: An Earth astronaut who gained the title, an interplanetary policeman. He formed the Guardians of the Galaxy to be more proactive in protecting the galaxy, rather than just reacting to threats when they happen. Starlord is outfitted with a Kree-issued, heat-damoening espionage battle suit, a battle helmet that analyses strategy data, can improve vision and regulate oxygen when in space, and a universal translator. His preferred weapon is a pair of Kree submachine guns that can fire various ammunition, including explosives.

Reason for Casting: Caviezel is a pretty talented actor who I think could bring a lot of charisma and badassery to the role of Starlord. He's also familiar with action as seen in his work on Outlander and Person of Interest.

Charlie Hunnam (Queer as Folk, Sons of Anarchy) as Adam Warlock: An synthetic human created by scientists and protector of Counter Earth. Adam is in possession of a Soul Gem, which contains an idyllic pocket universe that hosts all of the souls that the hem has ever captured. He also uses Quantum Magic, which allows him to manipulate energy, create force fields, teleport, travel faster than light and detect wormholes and other irregularities in space.

Reason for Casting: Hunnam is an underrated actor who has the right look for Adam Warlock. Although he hasn't played any roles that are similar to Warock, he does have the talent to pull it off.

Luke Goss (Hellboy ll: The Golden Army, Tekken) as Arthur Douglas/Drax the Destroyer: A human who was chosen by the Titan god Chronos to destroy Thanos, the Mad Titan. He was given a new body and was christened Drax the Destroyer. Drax's powers include super strength, resilience, flight, and the ability to fire concussive blasts of cosmic energy from his hands. Drax is also highly skilled in the use of knives.

Reason for Casting: Goss is no stranger when it comes to make-up and prosthetics. He would be great as Drax if he beefed up. And even though Goss isn't as tall as Drax, camera tricks can be use to make him seem taller.

Lynn Collins (True Blood, John Carter) as Gamora: A highly trained assasin and the adoptive daughter of Thanos. Gamora posses super strengh and agility along with a healing factor. She is one of the most skilled martial artists in the universe, and wields a sword called Godslayer.

Reason for Casting: I was hesitant in casting Collins, becasue she played a similar role in John Carter, but then I deciced it doesn't really matter. Anyway, Collins, with her black hair and her exotic looks, has the looks for Gamora and is pretty handy with a sword.

Sienna Miller (Layer Cake, Factory Girl) as Phyla-Vell/Quasar: The daughter of Captain Mar-Vell, and the third person to take on the persona of Quasar. Phyla has has superhuman strength, can fly, can fire energy blasts from her hands, and absorb energy attacks and redirect them. She is also in possession of the Quantum Bands, that give her vast energy manipulation powers, including absorbing and transforming energy on a stellar level, forming solid energy constructs and forcefields, the ability to space travel and protection from telepathic attacks.

Reason for Casting: Miller's a great actress that can give solid performances even in the crappiest of films (e.g. G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra). I know that she isn't as tall as Phyla, but three inch heels could fix that problem.

Andy Serkis (The Adventures of TinTin: Secret of the Unicorn, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) as Rocket Racoon (voice and motion capture): The Guardian of the Keystone Quadrant, an area of space sealed off by the Galacian Wall, and the captain of the starship, Rack 'n' Ruin. Rocket is an accomplished starship pilot, marksman, and military tactician. He uses a pair of laser pistols, and prefers to use heavy weapons.

Reason for Casting: After seeing Greg Ellis's performance as Rocket in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 , I've always read Rocket's voice in a Cockney accent. Serkis has been recently given a few great performances recently, and I'm convinced that he can pull off Rocket's attitude and badassery.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Shogun, The Lord of the Rings trilogy) as Groot (voice): A giant tree monster from Planet X, who can only say the phrase "I am Groot", but it can means a number of different things. He is good friends with his team mate Rocket Raccoon. Groot can absorb wood to feed, rebuild himself, or enhance his strengh, control trees, and is resistant to fire.

Reason for Casting: For Groot, you need somebody with a big and powerful voice, which Davies certainly brings to the table. I also took in the fact that he already voice a giant tree creature, Treebeard, in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

Jamie Chung (Dragon Ball Evolution, Sucker Punch) as Mantis: A former member of the Avengers, who served as a counciler for the Guardians on Knowhere (the Guardians' base of operations), and later became a full fledge member. Mantis is a Grandmaster martial artist, and has the abilities of Empathy, plant manipulation, an accelerated healing factor, and astral projection.

Reason for Casting: I haven't seen much of Chung's work, but from what I have seen, she's pretty good, and I think she'd be a good Mantis. Plus, she knows martial arts.

Noomi Rapace (Babycall, Prometheus) as Heather Douglas/Moondragon: A human who was raised by the monks of Shao-Lom on Titan, who help developed her mind and body to her full potential. Moondragon is an immensely power telepath, a low level telekinetic, and a master martial artist.

Reason for Casting: I originally went with Angelina Jolie, but then I decided to use somebody a bit more original. Anyway, Rapace is currently one of my favorite actresses, and I'm a big fan of her work. I think she'd do good as Moondragon, and I find seeing her with a shaved head would be sort of sexy.

George Eads (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Young Justice) as Vance Astro/Major Victory: A member of the Guardians of the Galaxy from the future, who joins the modern team when he is displaced in time. Vance posses the power of psychokinesis, the ability to affect matter with his mind. However, he ca only manifest them as "psyche-blasts", focused psychokinetic blasts of explosive concussive force, which can disrupt the synpases in the minds of any living being they strike. He also carries Captain America's shield in combat.

Reason for Casting: George's a good actor, as seen on CSI. I choose him as MAjor Voctory mainly because he has this Buzz Aldrin quality to him that would fit Vance.

Doug Jones (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth) as Bug (voice and motion capture): A former member of the Micronaunts who joined the Guardians in an attempt to stop the Sh'iar-Kree conflict known as the War of Kings. Bug can communicate with other antennae beings over a limited amount of space, and is adept with all types of weapons and hand-to-hand fighting.

Reason for Casting: Doug Jones' name is particularly associated with motion capture and prosthetics. I think he suits a character like Bug, and I think he would have some fun in the role.

Taylor Kitsch (John Carter, Saveges) as Jack Harrison/Jack Flag: A human from Earth who joined the Guardians after escaping with them from the Negative Zone prison. Jack posses superhuman strength, stamina, durability, and a regenerative healing factor. He is also a skilled martial artist and athlete.

Reason for Casting: Kitsch is a very (and I mean very) underrated actor who has had a recent string of failed films. However, I think Guardians of the Galaxy would be his ticket to Stardom. He'd just need to train in martial arts and he would nail the role.

Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,The Dark Knight Rises) as Cosmo the Space Dog (voice): A former test animal of the Soviet Space Program, who drifted into space and mutated to the point where he had telekinetic and telepathic powers. He currently serves as Knowhere's chief of security.

Reason for Casting: With Nolan's Bat trilogy ending, I thought it would be nice to see Oldman in a Marvel film, and a small role like this would be nice. And seen from his work as Viktor Reznov in the Call of Duty games, he can easily do the accent.

Villians:

Keith David (They Live, The Chronicles of Riddick) as Thanos: The Mad Titan who is obsessed with death and nihilism to the point where he fell in love with Mistress Death, it's embodiment. He wishes to control the Infinity Gems, which would grant him God-like powers and dominion over the Universe. Thanos posses superhuman strength, stamina, and durability, can absorb and project vast amounts of Cosmic energy, and is capable of telekinesis, telepathy, and matter manipulation. He has been trained in the Titan art of war, and is genius in all known fields of advance science.

Reason for Casting: David has a deep, commanding voice that would work very well with Thanos. But what sold me on casting him was his big grin, which is one of the characteristics needed for Thanos.

Charlie Hunnam (Queer as Folk, Cold Mountain) as The Magus: An evil, alternative version of Adam Warlock who was driven insane by the Soul Gem and the Inbetweener. He leads a religious empire called the Universal Church of Truth. Magus has similar powers to Warlock, including superhuman strength, stamina, durability, energy projection, telepathy, intangibility, quantum sorcery, and cosmic awareness.

Reason for CastingL I think it makes sense that the guy who's playing Warlock should also play Magus. But Hunnam is also great at playing, dark, disturbed, and simply insane people.

Anyway, please leave your thoughts and comments below. I hope you have enjoyed this article. Also, rude or mean comments will be deleted. And to end this fan cast, I present to you, A Rocket Raccoon Montage:

Hey, how'd you get down below me on here?
You should be above me! That's not very fair to you!
You should be up the page from me!
Oh, well, this has happened to me too!

Anyhoo, Nice FANCAST!

You used GEORGE EADS for VANCE ASTRO, FANTASTIC!

You've got the same GAMORA, ROCKET RACCOON and
BUG as I do!
Maybe I'll have to change them.
But LYNN COLLINS is so prefect for GAMORA that I
probably won't change her.

You've got my former picks of CAVIEZEL for STAR-LORD
and HUNNAM for ADAM WARLOCK. Nice going!
I've got new guys for them, someone younger for
STAR-LORD & somebody else for ADAM WARLOCK
(I've got HUNNAM for IRON FIST now.).

I went in a different direction for GROOT, you went
the obvious with a deep voice for GROOT.
Yep, the guy who did THE LORD OF THE RINGS TREE-GUY
would be good for a deep-voiced GROOT.
I see GROOT as having a more crisp, twiggy voice.
But that's just me!
lol

Great JACK FLAG!

I'D love to see these guys in the upcoming MARVEL
movie.

This cast is DOWNRIGHT DAMN PERFECT, MRBLUSKY@!

By the way, REALLY NICE ROCKIN' ROCKET RACCOON
MONTAGE!
Love that little bandit-faced basterd!

Looks like he's gonna be in the AVENGERS comic
relaunch.

Like your picks. Andy Serkis is a must for Rocket raccoon. For a plot, with your villains, keep Thanos reduced to a cameo! He uses the Reality Stone (Since Loki used the Soul Gem) to make the corrupted Warlock! In a sequel, use Michael Korvac!

Absolutely fantastic!
When I saw your journal on DA that you posted it, I couldn't find it at first...How did you end up so low on the page?
Maybe you should repost it so more people will see it? Just copy and past it onto a new article so you can get more views!

I love all of your choices!
Lynn is the perfect Gamora, it's not even funny.
I don't support her as Wonder Woman, but I sure as hell support her for this role!

And, some may not like Kitsch, but you chose a great role for him, that he could pull off! So great work!

I may do a Guardians of te Galaxy cast for the uppcoming movie!
You have inspired me! Great work again!

I've never read any GotG comics either but this is very good. I don't quite get casting the 2 main leads of John Carter but since no one went to see it, I guess it doesn't matter. :P great job as usual.

Guardians the Galaxy and the Ventures of the Cosmic Marvel of Space. Always love space-age/related fan fics and this cast is right up my alley.

- Caviziel is always a good addition to a cast and its great to see him as someone besides Batman.

- Hunnam must have been snubbed by a casting director, he’s popular for comic roles but he is a good actor so I won’t dump on that

-Luke Goss is a great addition to any cast and he could do the physical work for Drax so I’m in.

-Perfect Gamora, and where did you get that lovely image of her?

-Love Sienna Miller so I won’t deny she’d be awesome as Phylla

-Perfect Rocket Racoon, perfect!

-Not sure how I feel about groot a largely cult actor in the role is believable but its something anyone could do after creative editing.

-Lovely Mantis I love Chang as a performer so I’m all good with this.

-Great Moondragon I loved her in Prometheus.

-He’s got the right build nad George is a great performer so I can see him as the Major.

-You’ve sold me with Doug Jones. Great choice.

-I agree with you Kitsch is a very underrated actor.

-Gary Oldman as a dog? BRILLIANT!

-David’s got the perfect voice for Thanos so I agree.

-I’ll go for Hunnam doing a duel role.

All in all a great cast worth seeing.

You have the wrong pic for Jonathan Rhys Meyers--unless you meant to use John Rhys Davies for Groot.

And for some reason, I always pictured a Rocket Raccoon voiced and/or mocapped by Danny DeVito.
Hellsing
Hellsing - 7/7/2012, 11:28 AM
I think the cast is solid although I just can't see Cavziel as starlord because to me he's perfect for punisher. Like I said awesome cast but I hope in the movie the roster would be smaller maybe more like yhe 5 that were on Avengers EMH, because if the team roster is too big then in,danger of getting the shaft or 5 second cameos GL style.
TheSoulEater
TheSoulEater - 7/7/2012, 1:11 PM
Serkis is a brilliant choice for rocket Racoon!
MrCameron
MrCameron - 7/7/2012, 1:30 PM
- LOL you know what's funny:
Caviezel is your pick for Star Lord
Starlord is voiced by on Avengers: EMH I think it is, by the same guy who voices Master Chief in Halo.
Caviezel is my pick for Master Chief in a Halo fancast I plan on doing sometime.

-Ah, Andy Serkis, one of the most underrated actors on the planet and one of my favorites. NEEDS to be Rocket Racoon.

-John Rhys Davies as Groot is another choice so obvious it kills me. Not that I dislike it LOL.

Rest are perfect, now go out and buy yourself an ice cream.
MikeZ
MikeZ - 7/7/2012, 5:51 PM
Impressive. Perfect timing for the announcement of the movie even!

- I too have seen Jim Caviezel cast in DDD's GOTG cast as well. I guess he would work.
- Wow, risque shot of Lynn Collins. I guess I've got something planned for tonight with that picture. And yes, she's an amazing choice for Gammora.
- Yeah, sure, go with a Brit for Rocket Raccoon. Worked in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3!
- That's John Rhys-Davies, not Jonathan-Rhys Meyers. You may need to fix that up.
- I guess you got a new pick for Domino, or are you just casting Noomi Rapace in different cast despite continuity? Oh, she'd be great as Moondragon, she knows martial arts as you stated for Domino in your Deadpool cast.
- I think Taylor Kitsch knows martial arts from playing Gambit in X-Men Origins, so not much to worry about.
- Ah, you a Call of Duty gamer. I've just gotten into that two years ago. Cheers. And yes, hearing the voice of Viktor Reznov come from Cosmo is a geekgasm right there!
- Keith David is my pick for Ch'od of the Starjammers. Nonetheless, he's good for every type of space being and/or god, whatever fits the bill for you.

Now that I commented on this, be sure to check out my fancast for Spider-Man.

Well I don't know much about of characters, but can see some of your choices: Charlie hunnam as Warlock, Doug Jones as Bug,Taylor Kitsch as Jack Flag.

Bu not agree wit Gary Oldman and Andy Sekis.

@DDD Thanks man!! I did take some inspiration from your previous cast. I can't wait to see your cast. And yes, Rocket Raccoon is Badass.

@comiccow6 Thanks you. But Loki used the Tesseract, not the Soul Gem. And I like the idea of Michael Korvac in a sequel.

@tweeeeenkies3 Thanks. I'm glad you like my picks for Gamora and Jack Flag. And I really hope you do a Guardians of the Galaxy cast.

@IronLeprechaun Thanks. I'll check out your fan fic when I have the time.

@RunDTC Thanks. I chose the leads from John Carter mainly because they fit their roles very well.

@95 Thanks!!

@RobertGarlen Thanks. The picture of Lynn Collins comes from an Allure photoshoot. I'm glad you like the cast

@FlixMentallo I'll fix the typos later. But I can't see Danny Devito as Rocket Racccoon.

@Hellsing Thank you. Caviezel would be awesome for Punisher, but I have him for Doctor Strange. And I include all of the members of the Guardians for Future installments of the franchise. I agree that the movie line up should be the one from Avengers: EMH.

@TheSoulEater Thanks!!

@Furrerminator I've also thought of Jim for Master Chief. I'm plan on doing a Halo cast after I beat the game. Glad you like my picks for Rocket Raccoon and Groot.

@nowtheresaBATman LOL. Thanks.

@Superdude001 I got a Dark Avengers cast, a Transformers cast, and a regular Avengers cast coming up.

@RoadDogXXIV I'm assuming that you're going rub one out to that photo of Collins? No, I'm not replacing Rapace as Domino. And I use to be a COD gamer, but now I've moved on to other games. And I did check out your picks.

@789 I'm glad you like my picks for Warlock, Bug, and Flag. But why do you not like Oldman and Serkis?

I know this is cliche...but no matter wat can we jus get michael clarke duncan to voice thanos? Lol n star lord is my fav character. Ill have to read up on gotg to catch up. O n not caveizel, how bout jensen ackles? Give the guy a shot at something superhero-ey lol

Wow, great cast!

I have to be honest, I’m not THAT familiar with GotG, which is why I was kind of upset Marvel decided to make a movie of them before Black Panther. But after reading up on them, and seeing the first picture of them from Comic-Con, it looks pretty cool.

I really like Caviezel as Star Lord and Hunnam as Warlock.

Andy Serkis as Rocket Raccoon is brilliant, same with Keith David as Thanos! Although the only thing I can remember seeing him in off the top of my head is the failed TV show “The Cape”, he was one of the best parts about it, even as it went downhill.

Just like usual, great cast!
WeekendAvenger
WeekendAvenger - 7/16/2012, 5:28 PM
Great cast for the most part. Not sold on Caviezel as Star Lord, Moondragon is spot on, my choice for Rocket Racoon is Simon Pegg. Your Drax pick isnt for me but I cant think of anyone else lol

Great Fancast MrBlueSky, sorry it took a while for me to comment been busy lately. This is a good casting such as Jesus as Star Lord, Lynn Collins as Gamora, Andy Serkis is the first guy that pops in my head to voice Rocket Raccoon. Keith David as Thanos is AWESOME.
Again this is an awesome cast, keep it up.
(giving you 2 thumbs up).

I cant say whether or not an actor fits a part as I'm not entirely familiar with this new series. i can say that you have gathered a fantastic a$$ kicking cast and it would be awesome if this came to fruition

This is great. I mean, I'm not that familiar with the team (although I know the names of each member, especially Major Victory, the member that attracted me the most thanks to his discovery of Captain America's shield), but I know that Guardians of the Galaxy is a very interesting property, and I can definitely see every of your pick in their respective roles.

Although I personally have Luke Goss as the Blackheart of the possible Ghost Rider reboot in mind (yes, also because he is no stranger when it comes to make-up and prosthetics), he can definitely fit for Drax. And, Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Groot is genius. Indeed, the first thing that came into my mind upon imagining a live-action version of the character is Treebeard, and...you know what that means.

Thanks for the awesome Rocket Raccoon .gif's, too!

I'll b honest, I really do not know a single thing about the Guardians of the Galaxy, but if the movie hosts a cast as good as yours I would definitely be interested

Put simply u've cast a lot of my favourite actors (Caviezel, Hunnam, Goss), but the stand out 4 me has 2 b Andy Serkis lol
I might not know about Rocket Raccoon but his inclusion anywhere is just cool, so like I said, if the movie cast is anything like yours, we'd be in 4 a treat, nice stuff dude!

Great job! I would love to see this cast in the upcoming movie! My personal favorites are:

Jim Caviezel - Star Lord: He would be amazing as Star Lord! I think he is definitely "leading man" material enough to pull of the leader of the Guardians. Great choice!

Luke Goss - Drax: Another phenomenal choice. His role in Hellboy II is enough of a reason to show what a great cast this is.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers - Groot: Probably one of the better voice casts since Michael Clarke Duncan to Kilowog. He would be completely awesome!

Noomi Rapace - Moondragon: She has definitely become a major player in Hollywood after Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and Prometheus. I think if she were cast in any CBM, this would be a great role for her!

Excellent job overall!
