As reported awhile ago, the graphic novel Batman: Year One is getting an animated adaption. A fan site known as Batman on Film, is reporting that the highly anticipated direct-to-DVD animated PG-13 feature is set to come out on September 27th, 2011. The site doesn't give a source, so don't count it as official yet. Still, that date would make sense.


Batman: Year One tells the story of Bruce Wayne's early days as Batman after he returns to Gotham City from his years of traveling and studying abroad. The story also talks about young Jim Gordon,the future police commissioner, as he joins the Gotham P.D. and becomes engulfed in the corruption of the city.

This is the schedule, from what I understand.

Superman/Batman:Apocalypse - September 2010
All Star Superman - February 2011
Green Lantern: Emerald Knights - June 2011
Batman: Year One - September 2011

There will also be a separate release featuring the 3 Showcase shorts, plus a 22-minute Superman/Shazam.There is no release date on this yet.

@Kes Marvel and Lionsgate have an 8 picture deal to produce animated films based of their characters. Those films include Ultimate Avengers 1 and 2, The Invincible Iron Man, Dr. strange: Sorcerer Supreme, Next Avengers: Heroes of Tommorow, Hulk Vs., Planet Hulk, and Next Year we will see thor: Tales of Asgard. After Disney bought Marvel, they decided to not renew their deal with Lionsgate and they are waiting out til the deal ends next year. Once that happens, disney will produce animated films for Marvel and we will probably see about 2-3 a year, like DC

The look of Marvel animated movies are horrible, the only good one was Hulk vs Wolverine and that was because of the story. Can't wait till Disney starts animating their movies, they will look awesome!

If DC won't make a live-action shared universe, they should for their animated movies like they did with the Batman: TAS, Justice Leage, Batman Beyond, etc. I don't understand why all of these films or one-shots (besides Gotham Knight and New Frontier)

great news,i would love to see frank millers the dark knight returns adapt for the screen.
animated or live action.
live action must be directed by zach snyder.

@ Kes - you mentioned live action flicks, name me the MARVEL movies? IM, IM2, and Hulk? because aside from Spiderman 1 which wasn't ran by MARVEL is good but the previous IM MARVEL has also struck out a few times.

dnt u guys think the sutdio is getting pretty lame by putting out there mostly batman n superman animated films? -.- i mean green arrow deserve more than a short feature. they could have gone with flash, blue n gold, jsa or even a titans animted movie. but nooo they had to put out superman n batman over n over coz these are the only two superheroes that make money.
