After years and years of waiting fans are getting their wish, The Dark Knight Returns is being made in to an animated movie. Part One of the two part movie is set to hit stores this month on the 25th, with Part Two expected sometime in early 2013. News has been pretty quiet on the second movie, until now. TvGuide has released the first still from the animated film that showcases The Joker, who will be voiced by Michael Emerson. Emerson is excited to get the chance to play The Clown Prince of Crime saying, "He's one of those great villains that an actor like me likes to play because he has layers — he has a face for the world and a face for himself. He is, in a way, a villain who is a natural actor. All of that is that is delightful and confounding at the same time." He went on to say that the role of The Joker is freeing because of the largeness of it. That he doesn't do anything part way, everything is cranked up to 11.

Those familiar with The Dark Knight Returns story also knows that Superman plays a part towards the end. Actor Mark Valley has been cast as the Man Of Steel, and joins Emerson as The Joker as well as Peter Weller returning as Batman. The Dark Knight Returns Part Two is scheduled to be released sometime in early 2013.

@ rundtc

Part of me hares the story but part of me loves it simply Bc it started to give superheroes their balls back. Even if frank miller just superimposed the frank miller character into batman. (Like he does with every story he's written)

I'm curious as to where they'll end part 1, now.

Kind of disappointed, but that was unavoidable. I've always thought Andrew Robinson would do a great TDKR Joker.

The only thing I've seen Emerson in was Saw, and he didn't do a whole lot of talking there.

Wait, so Batman retires and then comes back to fight crime again? The Batman I know would NEVER retire;) I bet Chris Nolan wrote this crap!

I also think Emerson is a great choice for The Joker, call me not a real Batman fan but I'm really sick of hearing Hammil's overly cartoony voice doing The Joker every time. A change is nice.

Holy what? Ben? WHAT?
I had no idea!
I want to see this movie so much more now!

@Ryguy88 WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU!? You've never heard of the Dark Knight Returns? IT CAME OUT IN THE '80S. No, not Nolan--MILLER. FRANK MILLER.
lntrn8
lntrn8 - 9/4/2012, 8:59 AM
@Ryguy88 - lol you are funny! this cartoon is based off of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns - which re-revolutionized Batman. You did read that book right? I think Nolan was in High School when it came out, so . . . Nolan did not write that.
hoodedjester
hoodedjester - 9/4/2012, 9:00 AM
@ Ryguy88 - you gotta read the book to understand why he retired in the first place. It's more of a forced retirement that also explains what happened to the justice league too.

The book is a fantastic read and it will cost you less than 15.00 on comixology if you like reading comics digitally. I'd seriously recommend picking it up. One of the best, if not the best Batman stories ever told
Tainted87
Tainted87 - 9/4/2012, 9:05 AM
I think Ryguy88 was being facetious....
Because people like me hate that Batman retired in the Dark Knight Rises, claiming that the Batman we know would never give up and quit.

But he's missing the fact that this is not in any way, mainstream continuity, and his remark is about as spot-on as saying Superman would never conquer the Earth.

the problem with nolan's retirement of batman was......

-it took seven years training to become batman

-he was batman six months taking on rhas, scarecrow & the joker.

-retires for eight years

-makes a comeback to take on bane

-then put on the shelf for another 3-5 months

-makes another comeback only to retire again
