You've got to hand it to Warner Bros, they don't go down without a fight. After it was reported a few days ago that production had ceased (for now) on their planned live action adaptation of the classic Manga, Variety have now posted the following as part of their coverage on the story..

As for "Akira," which has only "Tron: Legacy" star Garrett Hedlund locked, the studio is by no means pulling the plug. Insiders said a new writer will probably be brought on over the next two weeks to focus on character elements and particularly on the pic's look. While no one's yet been offered the job, studio is said to be eyeing Jonah Nolan ("The Dark Knight," "The Dark Knight Rises") and Michael Green ("Green Lantern").

Yes, it's possible (if production does start back up of course) that we could have either a The Dark Knight Rises or a Green Lantern scribe handling the latest re-writes. Your disposition towards this movie being made in the first place will probably influence your preference there! The reasons for the halt in filming depends on who you choose to listen to. One reliable source claims it's all down to budgetary concerns, while another insists WB just aren't happy with the script yet. This new info would lend support to the latter.
