ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: Final Batch Of Concept Art Shows Some Of Janet's Quantum Realm Adventures

We have one last round of Ant-Man and The Wasp concept art for you today and this batch puts the spotlight on what exactly Janet Van Dyne may have been up to all those years she spent in the Quantum Realm!

By JoshWilding - Aug 13, 2018 11:08 AM EST
Ant-Man and The Wasp may not have stakes as high as Avengers: Infinity War but the sequel is still a lot of fun and it does a surprising amount to move the Marvel Cinematic Universe forward by introducing new characters, developing existing ones, and exploring the mysterious Quantum Realm.

Talking of that mysterious locale, the movie never actually explained how Janet Van Dyne managed to survive there all those years or what she spent that time doing. However, this new batch of concept art gives us an idea of the creatures she came across and how she interacted with them. Perhaps they were her source of food or she ruled over them like some sort of queen. We just don't know, sadly!

Regardless, to take a look at this final batch of Ant-Man and The Wasp concept art - which includes some alternate designs of Janet's suit - all you guys have to do is click on the "View List" button below.

@Nebula - I was hoping it would center on an adventure through the Quantum Realm to distinguish it more in terms of its visual world and subject matter. Given their interpretation of the Quantum realm, there probably wouldn't have been a real antagonist within the realm to drive conflict so they'd have the challenge of crafting a good man vs nature sci fi movie conflict.

Maybe they could've done a Winter Soldier thing and have Janet herself be one of their obstacles since the decades of isolation fighting for survival in a harsh environment could've messed with her head and caused her to lose herself. She'd view Scott, Hank, and Hope as threats before an emotional breakthrough scene of getting her to remember her family and slowly regain her identity. Then they have to escape as the dangers escalate.

@BIGBMH - Yellowjacket could've been down there and [frick]ing pissed.

Seems like they were going for something more Janet centric. Would've liked this.

I appreciate that it didn't feel like a Marvel-formula movie, like the first one, but it was very forgettable. I thought it would've done more to justify being released right after Infinity War but it really didn't. Felt like the non-entity I feared it would be in the shadow of that masterpiece.

Quantum you say?...

@MosquitoFarmer - Quantum is better than Spectre.

@L0RDbuckethead - I may not strictly agree with you for certain reasons, but I also agree with you for probably far more reasons. Quantum of Solace is underrated, is a quintessential Bond film when it comes down to over-the-top villain plot, and has its merits. The only flaw I think the movie really has is the action editing. It is too fast and frantic. By the time you get even a fraction of the way into the movie it works fine, but the opening is so hectic that it leaves a sour taste for a lot of viewers.

@MosquitoFarmer - Yeah that shaky cam + shitty editing can getcha sometimes. Totally agree.

Bond is all about the over-the-top villain plots. Quantum is no different. I just feel that it gets the most hate out of all the Craig Bond films, when Spectre should be the real hated-on one.

@L0RDbuckethead - Most of Spectre was well and good enough to me to say the least, but the plot needing condensing. By the time the 3rd Act climax came around back in London the momentum had started to wane. The big finale should have ended in Blofeld's lair/clomplex. (Plus I would have liked just one more scene with Bautista's Mr. Hinx.)

@MosquitoFarmer - Definitely. It just left so much to be desired, but also packed way too much into one Bond film.

I will say I did enjoy Christoph Waltz's take on Blofeld, however.

Just gonna put what my initial thoughts on the film were here:

- Ghost was just about the only good thing about it.
- Wasp was hardly in it. Her name was in the [frick]ing title, they hyped her up to all hell and she might as well have not been there.
- Most of the jokes didn't land. In-fact a lot of it seemed a bit obnoxious, like Scott's phone ringing in the tied-to-chairs scene. Some jokes worked, but they overstayed their welcome, like Janet possessing Scott or the truth serum.

I've got more thoughts; basically the film was just bleh. Below the serviceable level. Worst film in Phase 3.

I loved the film. I liked that it didn't adhere to a good vs evil format outright, and the comedy worked for me. I feel like the first and second ones were testing the waters to go full Quantum Real in 3. And the truth serum scene was the BEST! lol

I enjoyed the movie. Not the best, and also not the worst. It was a quick, fun; but ultimately very forgettable Marvel film.

They could've done all kinds of world-building, character development, and unexpected twists given some of the story elements, and the only things of consequence that happened were in the first post-credits scene. Felt like an uninspired vehicle to introduce the quantum realm and time vortexes ahead of Avengers 4.
