We figured Cassie Lang would be a part of the third Ant-Man movie when the character was aged-up after "The Blip" in Avengers: Endgame, but it did come as a surprise when Kevin Feige announced that Emma Fuhrmann would be replaced by Freaky star Kathryn Newton during Disney's Investors Day last year.
While chatting with Entertainment Tonight, Newton spoke about landing the role for the first time, revealing that the cancellation of her Netflix series The Society turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
"In the middle of quarantine, we were supposed to go film [season 2], and the show got canceled. My future was shot. I had no idea what I was going to do. And then a week later, I got a call from Marvel.”
“I've always wanted to be in a Marvel movie, my whole life," the actress continued. "But it was just because I was a huge fan. Every time one of them came out, I would go with my dad. It was what we did together, and we loved them. It was our experience, just me and my dad going to the movies. But I couldn't have told you who I wanted to be. Or even if I ever would.”
Cassie is expected to play a pivotal role in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, and there's a good chance she'll go on to join a future incarnation of The Avengers as Stature. Newton isn't giving anything away in that regard, but she does seemingly hint that Lang will be suiting-up at some point.
“All I can say is that I'm excited to be a part of the Marvel Universe. It's a dream come true, and I'm going to do my best to be the best superhero of all time.”
