Judy Greer Promises Plenty Of Comedy In ANT-MAN; Why Did She Love Working With Marvel?

If you were one of the people concerned about the rather serious tone of Ant-Man's first trailer, fear not, as star Judy Greer talks here about the amount of comedy in the Marvel Studios movie and why she loves working with Marvel as well as what makes Paul Rudd right for the role...

In Ant-Man, Judy Greer will play Scott Lang's ex-wife and the mother of his daughter Cassie. Not a lot is known about what the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes actress will bring to Marvel Studios' riskiest movie to date, and IGN Movies caught up with the actress recently to discuss what it was like to join the ambitious project. "It was, in the beginning, a little scary. My first day on set for Ant-Man I did an interview and the guy asks me who my favorite superhero was. I said Batman and he goes, “That’s DC.” And then I was like, “Oh, sorry, Wonder Woman!” and he goes, “That’s DC.” So I called my agent and and literally he overnighted me this huge, beautiful hardcover book about all the Marvel superheroes and was like, “Some research for you.” So I’ve been learning about Marvel. But they treat us really well and I really like the risks they’re taking with the comedy in their superhero movies kind of starting with Guardians of the Galaxy."

So, who is Greer's favourite superhero NOW? "I just love me some Ant-Man!" she told the site before delving into what makes Paul Rudd the right man to bring the small hero to the big screen. "Paul is so awesome and he’s so great in this role. This has been my first comic hero that I’ve really researched and fallen for. I also think the Ant-Man origin story that we tell in our movie is really beautiful and I think there’s something really real about a man trying to better himself for his family." Talk then turned to the rather serious trailer and whether that reflects what is in the movie, and for those of you worrying, it still sounds like Ant-Man will be a funny movie (were you expecting any different after a rewrite from Paul Rudd and Adam McKay?). "I haven’t seen it yet but there was a lot of comedy on set and we did a lot of comedic improv. I don’t know what will end up in the movie, but yeah." I'd be more optimistic if it (unlike some of the recent Marvel movies) wasn't going to be so comedic. It ruins the tension and stakes for me. Hopefully it's great though!

How about plenty of compelling story because comedy dont tell an intriguing story.

@ALegendaryPanda I don't see anybody freaking out right now. A few said they hope it's not too comedic. That isn't really a bad thing...

Seems to me like they're following the footsteps of the first Iron Man movie. Paltrow spoke of how much Downey and her improvised many scenes in the film, take a look...

the only way this movie is going to work is with comedy. others need to have less (thor) but not this one.

"I called my agent and and literally he overnighted me this huge, beautiful hardcover book about all the Marvel superheroes." Because, like, shopping for a comic book would be so, literally uncool. I mean, literally.

This movie looks sooo awesome!!! Can't believe we're getting an Ant-Man movie. Marvel has so much faith in their characters while DC's still stuck on Batman and Superman.

This we'll probably end up like the first Iron man, which is a good thing.

When you think about a character named "Ant-Man" you already know Marvel will have to squeeze out 40% of humor. People are already bashing it because of the name itself. Might as well give them what they expect with (hopefully) a compelling story as the user above mentioned. I have faith that this film will be one of Marvel's unexpected surprises I just hope the comedy is blended in well with the script than just chuckles to keep everyone awake. There is a story being told here and there is some emotional weight being drawn from both Pym's and Lang's stance in this film. That is what I'm looking forward to seeing and that's what I'll keep in mind while watching the film; for Fiege has expressed the same thing.
