Ever since Michael Douglas was announced to be portraying modern-day Hank Pym in Marvel's upcoming Ant-Man, fans have been wondering whether or not the younger version of the character would be portrayed by Douglas with the help of some de-aging CGI, or by another actor althgether. Well, Marvel have issued a casting call recently, and it could well be they're looking for both.
Reportedly, Marvel is 'looking for a young Michael Douglas photo double', for what is almost certainly the role of a young Hank Pym. What's interesting about the report however is that Marvel doesn't seem interested in hiring an actor for the role - it's described as Background or Extra. This suggests that we'll either only see young Pym very briefly, or CGI will be used to map Michael Douglas' performance onto a younger body for the 60s scenes - the more likely option. Either way, the part is yet to be cast.
ANT-MAN is directed by Peyton Reed and stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, in addition to Corey Stoll, Patrick Wilson, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena and Matt Gerald, who have all been cast in currently unspecified roles. The movie is set to release on July 17th, 2015, with production set to begin this August.
