Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige Teases The Future Of The ANT-MAN Franchise Post-AVENGERS: ENDGAME

In a profile of Ant-Man and The Wasp star Paul Rudd, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has teased the actor's future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the pint-sized superhero. Check it out...

The New York Times has an excellent profile up on Avengers: Endgame star Paul Rudd, and after talking about what it was like for him to star in that massive superhero ensemble, the publication reached out to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. They asked him whether there's a future for Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and things sounds good...we think!

"The chess pieces were arranged very purposefully after 'Endgame,'" he teased. "Those that are off the board are off, and those that are still on, you never know."

In other words, Ant-Man is very much still in play, and despite the fact that there's no Ant-Man and The Wasp sequel in Phase 4, there's still a future for Scott Lang in the MCU (we just don't know what it is). Still, this is definitely a positive update, especially as some fans have expressed concern that his story might have ended after Avengers: Endgame reunited Scott with his older daughter.

In related news, Rudd was also asked about his role in the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot/sequel. "I grew up watching that movie," he said of the original, "and this happened to be one where it completely works on its own. You don’t want to do it just because it’s part of a larger thing, but there is the added bonus of being part of something that has a real place in culture."

Asked whether he'll be strapping on one of those iconic proton packs, Rudd responded: "It remains to be seen what I strap on. I’m not giving you anything."

What do you guys hope comes next for Ant-Man in the MCU?

Ant-Man and The Wasp cameos you almost certainly missed!

Hayley Lovitt

In Ant-Man, we never got to see The Wasp's face or hear her voice. That's because Marvel was obviously waiting to cast the hero for the sequel and they made a stellar choice with Michelle Pfeiffer.

Back in 2015, it was little-known actress Hayley Lovitt who played Janet and while Pfeiffer gets top billing, she actually reprises the role for flashbacks featuring a younger Janet saying goodbye to Hope.

It's nice to see that Marvel chose to bring her back here and she's doing pretty well for herself as she most recently appeared as the living mutant computer Sage in Fox's X-Men TV series The Gifted

Tom Scharpling And Jim Wurster

This cameo actually ended up on the cutting room floor so we may have to pick up the Blu-ray to check this one out. Basically, Peyton Reed's friends - comedians om Scharpling and Jim Wurster - shot some brief scenes as Sonny Burch's getaway drivers but that was cut presumably due to time constraints.

These two are best known for their work on The Best Show (an internet radio show) and Scharpling's run of bad luck in the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues because he shot a cameo for Ant-Man but that was cut too. Who knows, perhaps the third time will be the charm if Reed helms Ant-Man 3.

Langston Fishburne

In both Ant-Man and Ant-Man and The Wasp, Michael Douglas was digitally de-aged to appear as a much younger version of himself. Dax Griffin plays the character in those and Douglas' face is then placed over that but in order to create a young Bill Foster, Marvel looked a little closer to home.

Langston Fishburne - who is Laurence's son - takes on his father's role in those flashbacks but despite the family resemblance between the two, Laurence's de-aged face was still placed over his son's. While we never actually see his face here, this is probably still Langston's most high-profile role to date.

Stan Lee

Stan Lee's cameos are always a lot of fun but his appearance in Ant-Man and The Wasp may be among the best. During a thrilling chase sequence, The Wasp shrinks down a motorbike and sends one of Sonny Burch's goons flying but she misses the mark on at least one occasion and shrinks the comic book creator's car! Needless to say, he's left reeling by what's happened and makes a pretty hilarious remark about paying for the 60s (no doubt a nod to the psychedelic tales he used to tell back then).

Egghead

In one of Ant-Man and The Wasp's coolest moments, we learn that Ghost was once an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. (not by choice, mind you) and that her parents died when her father, Elihas Starr, attempted to access the Quantum Realm. That gave Ava her powers and what you may not realise is that the character is better known as Egghead in the source material and has frequently clashed with Hank.

Played by Michael Cerveris, he has the same bald head as his comic book counterpart and many fans are already convinced that we'll see him return in the next movie as Burch's mysterious employer.

Tim Heidecker

This cameo was so easy to miss that Peyton Reed actually had to point it out during a recent interview. In Ant-Man and The Wasp, comedian Tim Heidecker plays "Whale Boat Captain Daniel Gooobler" and he can be seen freaking out what Scott Lang transforms into the largest iteration of Giant-Man yet.

He also showed up in 2015's critically panned Fantastic Four reboot as Reed Richards' adoptive father and his comedy partner Gregg Turkington had a cameo in Ant-Man as the Baskins Robbins manager who fires Scott. The actor has since been having fun on social media about playing the boat captain.

Ant-Man and the Wasp was mind-numbingly average for me. A lowpoint that harkened back to the worst of Phase 1 or Phase 2. Hope they switch it up in a big way and do something interesting with the property. I like Paul in the team-up films. They really don't seem like they know what to do with the Wasp.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - Funny, it's one of my my favorite MCU films. The only criticism I have is that they a tad too silly with FBI agent Woo.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - i personally consider it the worst mainly because of them clearly not caring. You can tell this with how they resolved the ghost plot. What kind of writer just throws in powers out of nowhere that seem to perfectly resolve every remaining problem when you genuinely care about what's being written?

If they do another Ant Man solo I'll be surprised. I day do a Ragnarok and team him with another hero. (Ant Man two doesnt cou t cause Wasp had pretty much the same powerset minus besides height and laser blasts). You already set up Hulk as a fun guy just team him with Scott or Hank and you can have a science bros movie or something.

I know this is the least popular franchise within the MCU, but I really like these films and I definitely want at least a third one.

There better be a future for Ant-man, the Wasp and Stature. If you do not finish the Ant-man trilogy it will bring shame to your house (of ideas).
