We've known for a while that Black Manta will be one of the lead villains in Aquaman and that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will be playing him. Something which isn't clear is whether or not he'll don his iconic helmet from the comic books, especially as it's easy to imagine a live-action version being somewhat toned down so it looks a little more grounded. For that matter, what id he doesn't even wear it?

Well, we now know that Black Manta will indeed don a helmet because director James Wan has taken to social media to share an image of Abdul-Mateen II recording dialogue while talking into a trash can! Why? Well, it's done to simulate the sound of his head being inside the football-shaped helmet.

It remains to be seen when we'll see the first trailer for Aquaman because it's still a long way off from being released. Comic-Con is a possibility but Warner Bros. might want to get it online sooner rather than later because it could get lost buried by whatever other sneak peeks surface that weekend! What do you guys think? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

@Ragnarocknroll - I assume that you hate DC but I have to admit that you could be totally right with your comment. Sad but true. And this comes from a DC-Fanboy.

@ChangAlang - Rage fueled fanboys: "B-but I thought DC Films did nothing Comic accurate. This comment is total bullshit."

@Ragnarocknroll - That's only happened one and a half times (once with trailer Park's Suicide Squad and partially with Frankenstein's monster Justice League.) The chances of it happening again would only be definite if it suffers from studio interference like those films did. James Wan is at the helm. Much as I love Zack Snyder, I believe Wan may be a better visual storyteller than he is, so this movie could ONLY be garbage if the studio steps in to "fix" it.

@boiling - I don't hate DC per se. In fact, Superman is my favourite superhero of all time which is ironic as my love for DC is directly responsible for my hatred of the turd-ish DCEU.

@Ragnarocknroll - Ok! Than we have more in common than I assumed 😃It is a shame how they are treating these iconic characters 🤬I liked MoS, it surely had it’s flaws but I liked how they visualized Supes powers and movement. They had soooo much to play with in BvS and what we got is a kick in the nuts. JL could‘ve redeemed some of that but...and look at SS ohmy..it’s a shame shame shame, all hope is lost.

@boiling - Agreed on all counts my friend. I actually liked MoS the first time I watched it, but the more I allowed it to sink in, the more I realized just how wrong they got Superman as a character. (Probably the only scene in the film that I still love is the first flight sequence). The only DCEU film I consider even remotely watchable thus far is WW, but even that I found thoroughly by-the-numbers and generic. I dunno man, I really hope a good director comes and makes a DCEU film that blows our socks off.

@Ragnarocknroll - Exactly! I even was ok with Killer-Supes at first and Jonathan being a dick with questionable educational methods who gets not saved.. but after some rewatches there is little left to love, that’s absolutely correct. Except for the First Flight, that was so fantastic. And I like the Smallville fight sequence. Amy Adams was a false choice imho, my choice would’ve been Evangeline Lilly ..and on and on arrrghh these old scars!
WW was a big letdown for me too. Gal Gadot is great (like Cavill most of the time) but these lame ass slowmo sequences and foremost this whole Ares-reveal in the final act ohmy. Can’t believe Prof. Lupin is Ares no way. These cheesy cgi fx in the finale didn’t help at all.
Let’s get fingers crossed mate!

"More grounded?" See where you went wrong there?
SisterSunday52
SisterSunday52 - 2/2/2018, 6:46 AM
@BillyBatson1000 - The more grounded, or at least more realistic, style of story telling (as in what would happen if the DC Universe characters were real) has been in the Modern Age DC Universe since 1985 and to quite a lot of success, especially in the two thousands up to New 52 and then again in Rebirth. While the DC Films Cinematic Universe has done similar, it hasn't had near the success, but it has had modest success only truly failing when it abandoned that approach (with Trailer Park's Suicide Squad and, to an extent, Justice League) so a more grounded approach is in no way wrong.

@SisterSunday52 - I was actually suggesting the same thing. That it DID in fact NEED 'more grounding,' but that the opportunity is probably lost now. And, in any case, Warner Bros will not be listening. The earlier dark/realistic Batman films generally all succeeded; artistically and financially. But based upon the desperate cut-n-paste style of humor edited (hacked) into JLA, Warners are clearly running-scared of more serious works. A more humorous tone is clearly working for Marvel, and I expect they'll be chasing that model. I don't agree with that. Ultimately, they're business men and don't have the same level of respect we have.

Great. Black Manta has one of the coolest costumes of any supervillain, it'd be a real shame to see it go unused.

This movie's gonna be good. I can tell. The DCEU is gonna find life in the post-Snyder era.

SisterSunday52 - 2/2/2018, 6:53 AM
@Super12 - It's had life since Man of Steel, albeit, not on the level of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it has taken a beating with studio interference, which turned off even the most devoted DC Films fan, but it looks like they might have learned their lesson after the failure of Justice League. The DC Films Cinematic Universe might have hope again, provided Flashpoint doesn't ruin everything.

@SisterSunday52 - well you have to cast a new Batman and Jake Gyllenhaal isn't the answer and honestly I'm not a fan of scared timid flash either

@blitzburgh - my theory is that Jake G. is gonna be cast as Nightwing, so whenever Ben Affleck's ready to move on Dick Grayson can take up the mantle of the bat. I'd rather Ben stay for about 5 more movies at least, but, who knows.
