Captain America Almost Lifted Mjolnir In Tonight's AVENGERS: AOU Sneak Peek

Captain America Almost Lifted Mjolnir In Tonight's AVENGERS: AOU Sneak Peek

What a day of Marvel announcements! This evening after Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., we got more footage in a new clip from Marvel's Avengers sequel that had one very important easter egg! You read the title...click for more details!

Marvel is firing on all cylinders today by giving us a little more than we expected, from their reveal event earlier in the day to the recut trailer with a little more footage from the film.

In a light hearted moment where the cast of characters are sitting at a gathering, Thor jokingly allows the group to attempt to pick up Mjolnir and then jokes that none of them are worthy.

But if you look closely to the footage, there is a brief moment that Thor looks surprised as Steve Rogers makes his attempt. While Rogers is unsuccessful, the Hammer does move. You can hear it for a fraction of a second thud is it falls back onto the table and just before the camera focuses on the hammer you see the expression of surprise on Thor's face!

This is big!

This gives more detail that may help us understand more about what we see in the trailer. Especially the scene where Thor is down and Captain America's shield has been split in two.

Whatever it hails, I'm excited!!!

Comment, tweet, pin, join the conversation, tell you friends! If you haven't seen the sneak peak from this evenings trailer you can check out the footage on DC Marvel Freshmans Article

My question is why Cap can't lift it, I feel like Cap would be more worthy than even Thor. Just saying, who is more about honor and righteousness than Cap? The immature and overly emotional Thor?

Oh c'mon, that's bullshit. The other guy had his article made, it was so close to getting on main.

@James99201

Exactly. I mean, Cap is "Morally righteous" and has never been shown to have a flaw. Thor, on the other hand, has. It doesn't make sense.

I think that the Cap is just pretending that he cant pull it, because he somehow knows he is worthy and is keeping the fact to himself

@babygroot it was on main, clicked on it and was reading it then went to refresh and it was deleted, lame

@James99201 Cap becomes worthy soon. Hope he lifts it against Thanos in Infinity War like he did in the comics. I feel like Thri being a Asgardian gives him a leg up In The worthy department. It may be tougher for a mortal to wield it even if they are worthy. I think Cap represents that. Eventually, he'll lift it I think. And maybe Thor, Odin or the hammer itself never considers that a human could be worthy and when Cap nudges it, it shows possibility.

Since all is foreshadowing then surely Cap will wield Mjolnir at some critical moment either in Ultron or later.
GhostDog
GhostDog - 10/28/2014, 9:27 PM
And maybe having that confidence is apart of being worthy. We know at or is verrrry confident
GhostDog
GhostDog - 10/28/2014, 9:28 PM
Cap probably didn't pick t up all they way because he's human and it may take time for a human to truly wield it and he probably didn't expect to lift it at all and gave up

I think Thor can loft it because he literally died in Thor 1. He sacrificed himself. Tony sacrificed himself in Avengers but he's still Tony...so he probably isn't worthy again lol and Yes Cap should be able to lift it! I think he might just wait and see!

Thor is about as worthy as Gusto after a few drinks

I did not see another article about any of this material, if it was posted after mine and another editor deleted it, there's nothing I can do about that.

Don't make assumptions please. I've caught myself before when something was posted, if posted before me, and removed my own articles.

I would have posted the sneak peak but two others got to it before I did. It's the name of the game.

Thor is actually thousands of years old. He's had years to prove his worthiness. Cap 95 lol. He's getting there haha.

@ComicsBornAndBred good answer. Also, Cap is a killer.
StarkRaving

It's worthiness by Asgardian standards. Cap is supremely worthy for a human, but simply being Asgardian conveys even greater worthiness.
BabyGroot

As I said before that poor fellow got his article deleted (for what reason?) ...I feel like we should go back to when Thor struck Iron Man with lightning and it powered his suit to an excessive rate. We all assumed that it more than likely would've hinted at a combat strategy in the final battle of The Avengers. But it never happened, so I doubt that it'll happen in Age of Ultron that Cap would use Thor's hammer. These moments are basically made to tease us and it seems that nobody really picks up on these ideas where a fun scene could become an important scene. That being said, I hope I'm wrong and would love if Cap used Thor's hammer if his shield really does get shattered, assuming it may or may not be a dream sequence.

@efcamachopmp didn't mean to point fingers, I just needed to vent. lol

I prefer it is a hint that he lifts it in Infinity War, not in Age of Ultron.
OpticBlastWins
OpticBlastWins - 10/28/2014, 9:42 PM
i could see him using it at the end of part 1 or any point in 2 after thor gets his ass kicked.
GhostDog
GhostDog - 10/28/2014, 9:44 PM
When your Asgardian your worthiness is greater than a human. Cap shows potential for humans to be worthy but it probay takes humans longer to do so

crazy day
GhostDog
GhostDog - 10/28/2014, 9:45 PM
Thor had to overcome doubt to lift it in Avengers and the first Thor. Cap probably has doubts about his worthiness due to Bucky and that situation and SHIELD.

With his shield broken and Thor out, I hope to see Captain America use Mjolnir against Ultron. That'll definitely drive me Geek-crazy!

I love the way Thor's smile slowly vanishes off his face when he see's it nudged.
