Joss Whedon On Scarlett Johansson's Pregnancy And More In AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON
In addition to Aaron Taylor-Johnson's thoughts on Quicksilver, and Robert Downey Jr. on The Vision, the full Entertainment Weekly article has Joss Whedon discuss Scarlett Johansson's baby bump!
After revealing the first Avengers: Age of Ultron images and plot details, Entertainment Weekly has now fully released its new San Diego Comic-Con preview issue, and it reveals even more tidbits about the highly-anticipated Marvel sequel. First, it's confirmed that the Maximoff twins, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, who Joss Whedon considers part of 'Team Ultron,' are orphan castoffs with a "firey hate" for Earth's Mightiest Heroes. "He's quick-tempored. He gets agitated. He's impatient. But he's super-protective," says Aaron Taylor-Johnson of his speedster character. "He had to become a father figure to his twin sister. He's physical and she's psychological. It's kind of them against the world." Elizabeth Olsen says of her telekinesis-harnessing character, "It's not that she's insane, it's just that she's overly stimulated."
Joss Whedon then reveals a fourth "Team Ultron" member in the Vision, who the director confirms that having Paul Bettany, the voice actor behind Tony Stark's artificial intelligence J.A.R.V.I.S., portray in Avengers: Age of Ultron is no coincidence; but he wouldn't say anything more. "By his own admission, Paul's very disappointed that he actually has to show up this time," deadpans Robert Downey Jr. As reported here, EW also describes The Vision as a "synthetic, superpowered human designed by Ultron to show that he, too, has the power to create life." Interesting.
Last, but not least, Joss Whedon also addressed Scarlett Johansson being noticably pregnant while filming her fourth turn as Natasha Romanoff aka the Black Widow. "She's not going to spend the whole movie carrying groceries," assures the director. "We didn't trim any scenes. We're like, 'We'll make it work.'" It's revealed that Scarlett Johansson had three stunt doubles who, despite resembling the actress, had CGI markers on their faces to later be covered by Johansson's in post-production. "It's always funny," says Chris Evans of the ScarJo doubles. "You walk by, 'Hey, Scarlett--oh, weird. You're not Scarlett at all. Sorry. A lot of fake Scarletts around." EW also described part of the sequence they saw being filmed which involved Ultron's Iron Legion opening fire on the Avengers for the first time. While Black Widow was seen firing back in a high-waisted cocktail dress that clearly covered her baby bump, Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) was seen nearby sticking his fingers in his ears trying not to Hulk-out in response. It's rumored the two have a love connection in Age of Ultron, but that wasn't addressed in the Entertainment Weekly article. What do you think?
