Robert Downey Jnr. Walks Out Of Interview When Asked About His Past

While doing an interview for Channel 4 in the UK as part of his press tour for Avengers: Age of Ultron, Robert Downey Jnr. walked out of the interview when the interview began to ask him about his past. Hit the jump and check the interview out for yourself.

The past is the past and that's how it should stay. Not according to Krishnan Guru-Murthy, a Channel 4 news interviewer. In a recent interview with Avengers: Age of Ultron's Robert Downey Jnr., Guru-Murthy brought up questions about the mega star's tainted past. Personally, I think it's a really douchey move on the interviewer's part, especially when you watch Downey's reaction to these questions, which disturbed him so much, he actually gets up and leaves the interview! The questions come at around the 5 minute mark.

It's plain to see that Downey was under severe discomfort when those questions started being asked and I don't blame him for leaving at all. What do you guys think? Be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments section below.

Dude is an asshole.

Say, why is it that everything RDJ does is like Tony Stark? Haha.

Before, I definitely would've given the guy the benefit of the doubt, because maybe when they set up the interview they didn't make the boundaries clear. Sometimes they let the actors talk about deep, serious, soul-searching type stuff, and most of the time it's just movie promotion. This could've been a case where the actor thought the interview would be one thing, and the interviewer thought differently. It happens.

But he has a history of pulling this kind of shit, so yeah, he's an agenda-driven asshole.

@AlexanderLykins You mean RDJ right?

If the interviewer asks a stupid question that doesn't give you a free pass to manifest your inner diva and be an even bigger tool.

Wow, really awkward. Poor RDJ really tried to answer in the beginning, but the interviewer kept piling it on, and it had no real relevance whatsoever to the movie being promoted... It was weird. It's like he waited all his professional life to psycho-analyze an actor.
Shame.
And I think RDJ actually did the only thing he could do. I mean what the heck was that ?

Oh boy, get your pitchforks out, irrational anti-RDJ fanboys! Time to defend one of the most incompetent interviewers in the business right now!

Are you retarded or something? RDJ was there to take AOU questions. This hack interviewer had no business delving into his personal life. Walking away was the best choice.

@Demiurge

RDJ looked really uncomfortable when the interviewer started getting personal. Best that he did leave because it could of ended with a crazy rant and the media would of ran with that.

I would of went in angry mode and cursed the dude out....I wouldn't last in Hollywood.

Krishnan Guru-Murthy is an Arsehole......I'm glad RDJ put him in his place.

LMAO!!! I like RDJ's responses. "Aren't we promoting a movie?" "Getting a little Diane Sawyer here."

Yeah, that guy's a douche to people he interviews. I get it. He's trying to make a name for himself. But what he's actually doing is making sure people avoid him. He's pulling a Josh Wildin...oh...hey Josh!

The interviewer is clearly incapable of asking actually relevant questions and even dances around the question he is about to ask as if scared.

Then, as interviewee you have two opions.

1. Look like an idiot and walk away.
2. Shrug it off and move on to the next topic, now interviewer looks like a tool.

V. poorly handled by RDJ

Per Ofcom rules in the UK I could understand why the interviewer had to stray away from promoting the film, but the way he worded his questions, specifically the way it leads with mention of RDJ's dad is just awful in a journalistic sense.
Funny though.

@Pymparticle If you think anyone thinks that Downey looks like an idiot there you clearly misread that and I would put it on you whether you want to keep trying to defend your argument.

What a dumb interviewer...

Asking questions like "your past with drugs and incarceration, do you feel you are past that?" are completely ridiculous.

However, A relevant question on this topic would be. "Your character, Tony Stark, has struggled with alcohol and personal demons. Do you feel that your past helps you better relate to or portray this character?"

That is how you ask that question in a movie interview.

The german guy that asked RDJ about the size of his trailer park at the press conference was hilarious. Appearantly he was right on the money too since RDJ didn't know how to respond.

I find it interesting, though not surprising, that is seems like the question about his dad was the last straw.

I feel for him, totally. I know i wouldn't react well if I went in to a situation thinking we can have some fun and someone started brining up a bunch of things about my dad and mistakes I've made etc. And I agree that the interviewer seems to just be that kind of guy.

@pymparticle That's definitely not being a diva when someone's asking about his mistakes that essentially derailed his career and has been redeeming himself for for 7 years and he doesn't want to go into it. I mean if people pry into the dark parts of my past, I don't take it kindly, I doubt you would either. No matter your thoughts on RDJ, he's definitely not the problem here.
