After J.A.R.V.I.S. became The Vision in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, Iron Man got a new A.I. assistant in F.R.I.D.A.Y. She (it?) remained by his side until Tony Stark made the ultimate sacrifice four years later in Avengers: Endgame.
Talking to Empire (via The Playlist), Oscar-nominated actress Kerry Condon reflected on a role which also saw her lend her voice to movies like Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Avengers: Infinity War.
"She still lives on in the theme parks and whatnot, but funny enough, I met Robert Downey Jr. only for the first time a few months ago," she said after being asked about possibly reprising the role. "It was so wild cause the two of us were like, 'Oh wow,' like, 'I’ve been your sidekick, and we’ve never met until now.'"
"It was really surreal and more funny than anything cause I was like, 'It’s me, I was that voice all the time! It was a crazy lucky experience for me because I never thought it was going to be so many movies," Condon continued. "I just thought it was going to be 'Age Of Ultron' and just this in and out gig, and next thing I know, I’m being brought back like all the time, constantly brought back."
After talking about how much she enjoyed stepping into the recording booth for her MCU role, the Better Call Saul star opened up on what it was like to be one of the final voices Iron Man hears when F.R.I.D.A.Y. declares, "Life functions critical."
"It’s funny because I don’t get the script; they don’t tell me because it’s so top secret, honest to god, it would drive you to drink," she said with a laugh. "And I was like, 'But he’s not really dead, is he? He’s not totally dead?' and they didn’t answer, because they don’t wanna answer in case I go off telling everyone, and they all just kinda looked at me really sadly and said, 'Just say it likes the saddest thing you’ve ever said.'"
Iron Man is rumoured to return in Avengers: Secret Wars, with Robert Downey Jr. reprising the role. However, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has strongly hinted that Tony Stark will remain dead, likely meaning the actor is going to play a Variant.
That probably means no F.R.I.D.A.Y., though there's always a chance Tony is pulled from that fateful final battle in Avengers: Endgame to help save the Multiverse before being returned to his rightful place in the timeline.
Condon's F.R.I.D.A.Y. could also potentially return in the Armor Wars movie which is presumably still somewhere on the horizon...
