Fox 5 -DC movie news correspondent Kevin McCarthy recently sat down with Joe and Anthony Russo to discuss
Avengers: Endgame and revealed that his favorite moment in the new trailer occurs when Tony asks Cap, "
do you trust me?" And Cap responds, "
I do."
Anthony Russo began to earnestly respond, "
Well, it's an amazing moment, but we can't go into too much detail," before he was cut off by his brother Joe, who admitted, "
That scene isn't in the movie. You know, how we tell people we manipulate the trailers to obfuscate what happens in these films..."
The interviewer appeared devastated, and asked if he was serious, to which Joe sheepishly replied, "
Am I Joking?"
Anthony then attempted to move the conversation forward, replying "
The relationship between Tony and Steve Rogers is a relationship we've been following closely for a long time. That is a special story arc." But McCarthy doubled back to Joe and attempted to confirm if he was seriously joking, to which he replied, "
Maybe [that scene] is in the movie."
The Russos are likely poking fun at the small amount of fan backlash they received for a scene in the
Avengers: Infinity War trailer that ultimately wasn't in the film.
They've previously commented on the absence of the "hero shot" from the
Infinity War trailer, stating, "
We use all the material that we have at our disposal to create a trailer. We look at the trailer as a very different experience than the movie, and I think audiences are so predictive now that you have to be very smart about how you craft a trailer because an audience can watch a trailer and basically tell you what’s gonna happen in the film. We consume too much content. So at our disposal are lots of different shots that aren’t in the movie that we can manipulate through CG to tell a story that we want to tell specifically for the purpose of the trailer and not for the film.
That shot that you’re referencing was never in the movie in the version that you saw. It was never even created for the movie in that version. It was literally created in that version for the trailer."
Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26. Advance tickets are currently live, though most opening night screenings are already sold out, with a few eBay auctions reselling tickets for thousands of dollars.
The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios' grand conclusion to twenty-two films, Avengers: Endgame.
