Joss Whedon Wanted SPIDER-MAN & CAPTAIN MARVEL In AVENGERS: AOU

leading up to the release of the Marvel sequel, rumors were rampant that both of the above characters were set to make cameo appearances in the film. By now we know that wasn't to be -- but if the director had his way we might just have seen 'em. Click on for more, but beware of SPOILERS...

Empire has posted a SPOILER filled podcast which includes interviews with both Joss Whedon and Paul Bettany (the Vision), and some very interesting thing are discussed. Chief among them is probably the revelation that Sony and Marvel were actually talking about integrating Spider-Man into the MCU as far back as the first Avengers movie, but obviously things didn't come together until recently.

Because of this though, Whedon didn't think he'd have too much trouble using Spidey (and Captain Marvel) in the final sequence of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, which features the new team assembling in front of Captain America and Black Widow. "So I would have put both of [those characters] in, but neither of the deals were made. And then they were like, ‘We’re making a Captain Marvel movie and we’ve got ‘Spider-Man’ as a property,’ and I’m like, ‘I’ve already locked my film you [frick]ers! Thanks for nothing.”

The Spidey cameo chatter comes in around the 25.00 mark but the entire podcast is well worth a listen, as Whedon also talks about Marvel wanting to cut the farm and dream sequences, his longer (and much better sounding) version of the Thor cave scene, and a lot more.

Marvel Studios presents Avengers: Age of Ultron, the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Cobie Smulders, Don Cheadle, Paul Bettany, James Spader, and Samuel L. Jackson and hits cinemas on May 1st, 2015.

Well damn, I truly wonder what the [frick] Whedon had planned. Must've been insane, really hope they give us that extended cut.

Never loved the idea of Spider-Man being an Avenger, though.

As much I enjoyed this movie, I can't help but feel that they should've just let Joss Whedon make his 3 hour cut.

@PAF Yeah, I started from the 25 min mark. Love hearing this guy talk, very interesting what he had to say about Hulk. Wonder when we're next seeing him.

Me too, it had great elements but was unfortunately brought down with studio interference.

Everybody except Hank Pym & Wasp were supposed to be in this movie. What a waste.

Not sure how I'd feel about Whedon touching Star Wars; kind of worries me.

That would of blew my mind if Spidey was in the last scene just standing with everybody.

Can't wait to see him pop up in Civil War next year.

If they had ended up in the movie then they definitely would have had to extend the run time to 3 hours.i already think it was too short for what they squashed into it so that would have been ridiculous.

@MarkyMarkRises

It's like they think we won't enjoy the movie if it's more than 140 minutes. I mean really what did they think people were gonna say?

"Man that new Avengers movie sure looks awesome, but it's 3 hours long so I don't know if I wanna see it now!"

I understand and somewhat like their reasoning for wanting to wait to introduce Captain Marvel in her solo film rather than just giving her a brief cameo. I think had they done that it would've been met with mixed reactions with some liking it and others seeing it being somewhat forced. Just one man's opinion.

They should of released the 3 hour cut in theaters to flesh out some things. I doubt anybody would have complained, since the movie has enough action, plus the pacing moves so quick it makes the movie feel short.

I enjoyed what I got. Just hope Ant-Man doesn't kill the momentum Marvel has going since Cap 2.

So, did anyone find out who the mysterious woman was in Tony's dream sequence?
