RUMOR: Stark Expo Set To Become An Attraction At Disneyland?

Apparently, plans are well in motion to make Disneyland home to its very own version of Iron Man 2's Stark Expo! Hit the jump for the very intriguing details...

According to the guys over at Furious Fanboys, the first Marvel themes attraction to hit Disneyland might just be a version of the Stark Expo first seen in Iron Man 2. Apparently, they're planning on installing the event into "Tomorrowland", or more specifically, the apparently hated renovated Eisner-era infomercial building "Innoventions".

According to the site:

What began as just a rumor on Twitter and Disneyland messageboards is apparently not really a rumor; sources say it’s well beyond that. Apparently Walt Disney Imagineering has drawings, renderings, and costume designs all ready to go.

They also speculate that it could be open to the public as soon as next summer, although there is no firm time frame for the it quite yet. What do you guys make of this? With The Avengers less than a year away, expect more developments on this very soon!

With an all star cast which includes Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Rufallo as Bruce Banner, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Tom Hiddleston as Loki, The Avengers is set to be released on May 4, 2012!

Actually, "Stark Expo" would work really well at EPCOT. It already has areas that have been used in the past to showcase new technology.

Don't forget that long before Marvel was sold to Disney, Marvel licensed many of its characters to Universal Studios in Islands of Adventure. I know they feature Spider-man, Hulk, Fantastic Four, Doctor Doom, Captain America, and X-men's Storm and Rogue, but off hand, I'm not sure whether they have Iron Man.

That's definitely the kind of thing they'd announce at the D23 convention.

If there's going to be a Hall of Armour and other Avengers related sights there such as props and recreations of sets, and it looks something vaguely like what we see in Iron Man II, that will be the biggest epic win in the history of ever! :-D

If Disneyland is going to feature Marvel related attractions, what is going to happen to the ones at Universal?

Of course this is the name of the Iron Man's Themes park area. But how cool would it be if they opened it for real inventors from all over the world?

This sounds great. I'm tired of that Potter nerd getting all the attention. I can see it now, like one said, a Hall of Armor featuring various Iron Man armor tech. Maybe you can even take a picture with your head in the Hulkbuster armor. A Mr Fantastic roller coaster where the track looks like you are riding around on his stretchiness. Spiderman swings for the kids. Hall of history with Cap's shield, a footprint in concrete of the Hulk, a replica of Thor's hammer, etc. Hawkeye's shooting arrow ride (a Disney version of Top Thrill Dragster). A virtual ride on the rainbow bridge, not to make a rainbow connection with Kermit, but to Asgard and encounter Loki and Frost Giants along the way in a zany controlled environment adventure. Disneyworld HERE I COME!!!

Now this is where people is problbably where marvel fans go over the top and think that disney is gonna make a whole section of rides entirely based on Marvel, even more than islands of adventure.... A word to the wise, expect the minimum

Also they said disneyland, this may not mean disney world as well. And I'm pretty sure the construction going on there now doesn't have anything to do with marvel. It's gonna be themed attractions for Their animations

JHowlett - 6/30/2011, 6:50 PM
@topcat10 I know Marvel has some kind of deal with Universal still so I'm assuming they'll keep rides having to do with those characters operational

@poop23 that's not out of the realm of possibility you know. Like you said Universal did well with their Marvel attractions so whose to say Disney won't do as good or even better since the characters are getting more popular. I think this Stark expo thing could be an experiment to see how much of a market there is for more attractions having to do with Marvel characters. If this thing happens and is successfull it's likely Disney would move forward with more attractions.

The question for me is what characters can Disney work with I know there's still a couple that are under some kind of contract so they're not completly in house. There's a lot you can do with the Avengers but I'd like to see Disney get control of Spider-Man and the X-Men at some point. I don't know if DareDevil and Fantastic 4 are still competly under FOX. I don't completly understand how it works with properties like X-Men and Spider-Man or what contracts are worked out with Columbia or with Fox so..

As Iron Man begins yet another permutation, this time in a possible Disney World exhibit, I think it's important to note the passing of one of the greatest comic book artists of all time, Gene Colan, who was fundamental to shaping the Iron Man image and mythos during his run on Tales of Suspense, leading up to and including the first issue of Iron Man. Gene passed away on June 23, and left behind him a body of work that has stood the test of time. His use of cinematic, especially noir, storytelling styles that highlighted his tremendous draftsmanship and the natural, swirling flair of his pencils, set him apart from the other great talents in the original Marvel Bullpen. Examples of his work that helped define a title include his stints on Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Howard the Duck and the entire run of Tomb of Dracula. He did so much more than those, it's too hard to sum it all up, not to mention the thousands of commissions he did for ecstatic and grateful fans over the years. He was a real gentleman and a rare talent, and he will be greatly missed. I count him as my personal favorite comic book artist of all time. I'm sure many who read this will feel the same. Perhaps this post will lead those readers who haven't heard of Gene Colan to check out his amazing legacy of work. You'll be glad you did.
