Despite the fact he helmed two of the best superhero movies of all-time in The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, Joss Whedon's decision to walk away from Batgirl was news welcomed by fans. That could be because of his work on Justice League or people wanting a female filmmaker at the helm of a DC Comics adaptation such as this one but you have to believe that's it's probably a bit of both.
Regardless, a new report now reveals that Batgirl is no longer a priority for Warner Bros. and there are currently no imminent plans for a new director to start working on the female-led superhero movie.
The site adds that the plan was always for the studio to develop moving focusing on the core members of the Justice League before launching spinoffs revolving around lesser known heroes and villains. Plus, even if Whedon had managed to find the right story, it's said that Batgirl wouldn't have shot before The Batman, a movie which currently has no release date as Matt Reeves continues working on it.
