George Clooney Once Again Apologises For "Destroying" The BATMAN Franchise

Promoting Tomorrowland, George Clooney talks here about his first visit to Comic-Con and why he found it necessary to apologize to fans for his role in Batman and Robin. However, the actor also reflects on why he took the job and how bizarre it was working with Joel Schumacher...

In the video below, George Clooney talks in detail about his experience filming that movie and why he regrets being the one to nearly destroy the Batman franchise. It's hard not to feel a little sorry for Clooney when he talks about how he thought at the time it would be a smart career move (he's still done well though, so it's not that big of a deal). It sounds like filming Batman and Robin was a unique few months anyway, so check out the video below for his comments.

Clooney was definitely not the problem. I quite liked his Bruce Wayne in bits.

George wasnt the problem with Batman and Robin his Wayne was good and he looked like the comic book Bruce. If he had a good script and a good Batsuit. He could have been great. I always found the idea of Batman Triumphant interesting for Harley Quinn and Jacks Joker coming back. That movie might have given George a decent script. he's a great actor.

He needn't apologize anymore. Past is the past. With Oceans, Burn After Reading, Up in the Air, Gravity, Men Who Stare At Goats, etc., he has MORE than redeemed himself.

You have to remember, he was doing TV shows for the majority of his life, until he got his roles in From Dusk Till Dawn and Batman & Robin. If I was stuck doing TV, after doing it for nearly 20 years and not really gotten offered a gig in a major production, I'd immediately hop on to do B&R as well. I like Clooney.

That being said, I heard Tomorrowland is one big global warming haranguing piece. So like so many films before it, it's probably really cool, but is unbearable due to all the propaganda shit.

I like most people here hate The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as well, but it's uncalled for to openly call people who like the film "idiots" on an article unrelated to the film. Even on an article related to the film, it's still unacceptable.

Before TASM 2 came out, i was anticipating it really badly, and that's probably why i didn't think it was that bad when watching it for the first time, i was probably wrong.

@Gardoh - I watched it with the lowest expectations ever, and had never read a spidey book at the time.

I liked it! I liked it a lot less the second time I watched it, but still it isn't as atrocious as some other cbms that have come out..

I thought George Clooney was an excellent Bruce Wayne....it was everything else about the movie that wasn't right.

As for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it wasn't THAT bad.

You wanna know what's the difference between Batman & Robin and TASM2?

Batman & Robin was a film not meant to be taken serious. It was meant for kids and to sell toys.

TASM2 was meant to be taken serious and also set up a Spider-Man Cinematic Universe (which is laughable since Spidey has barely anyone to do a CU with and if Sony was smart, they'd do a Hellboy Cinematic Universe since there is more potential with films starring Abe, BRPD, Lobster Johnson, and Frankenstein along with Hellboy).

That is why I find TASM2 worse than B&R. They thought it was gonna be the best Spidey film ever but [frick]ing failed in an epic scale.

Here's the problem Josh and why people don't like it.

This isn't an opinion article. It's a news article. You don't need to put your opinion in a news article because nobody clicks on this to hear your thoughts on anyone's thoughts on any given news article.

You don't see sports writers give their personal opinions about players or teams in a recap of a game other than the facts.
Abary

There's a difference between saying you don't like a movie and saying you're an idiot if you do. I can't comprehend how anyone thinks this is an acceptable statement coming from an editor on a news article.
lionovoltron

I look at these movies like comic books. Not every comic book is great. It could have a great story and horrible art. Or beautiful art. And no story at all. None of these movies will ever live up to all our expectations because we all have different taste. I say just enjoy the movies. Put the movies you don't really care for to the side. But all of these movies make the collection.
I could be wrong but I feel the more people nit pick and whine about things like they're producers. One day we may look up and the movie makers are too afraid to produce these types of movies because of the computer fanboys that love to voice their disgust with anything and everything that is not to their perfect version. Just my opinion.
BloodyBed
BloodyBed - 10/9/2016, 7:29 AM
@lionovoltron - I know some people think like that, but I cannot.

I would much rather a world where the dceu doesn't exist than what we got, and I'm sure some people wish Thor 2 and im3 were never made.

Watching a character you loved get ripped apart by critics and audiences around the world is incredibly painful to me, and infuriating.

I would rather they do them right or not at all. Unlike you, I put down the comics I don't like. I'm not saying that makes me better, just that I have trouble being supportive of something I don't like.

LEVITIKUZ - 5/24/2015, 5:41 AM
But still TASM2 is terrible. It's not even a fun film watching when you're drunk unlike Batman & Robin which is a great drunk film.
