Empire magazine has released a preview of an interview conducted with Christian Bale, providing some discussion on the Batman franchise. Although it's long been believed that this will be Bale's last turn as the Caped Crusader, he does provide a glimmer of hope:

All I know is the likelihood that this will be the last one. Well, I wouldn't say definitely. If Chris goes, 'Hey, I've got another story I think could be interesting,' then yeah, great, I'd go do that. I always assumed it would be three, but I could be wrong. I don't know if there's something wrong with me, but I don't feel any pressure.

He also shares his view on the casting of Tom Hardy in the Dark Knight Rises:
[Tom Hardy] seems like he's balls-out, doesn't he? Like he really goes for it.He looked like a guy that was happy to go to extremes, to really push it. Looks like he could go the distance...

The rest of the interview is available in the magazine out now.

Well BALE ain't gonna say Hardy's a sh1t choice for BANE now is he lol?

Great find btw @ Toilntrouble!

I'm warming to Catwoman.... but still no to Bane... Hardy's too perfect for Deadshot, Black Mask or even Hugo Strange.

Just got a feeling Banes gonna be [frick]ed up in this, way too soon for the character.

Hopefully Nolan Will Surprise Us With Bane And Hopefully Catwoman...i still have faith

LEEE - I dunno. While part of me will always see Hardy as Praetor Shinzon (LMAO), Bale's right about him being a 'balls-out' kinda' guy. I think that type of energy will be a perfect foil/balance to Bale (who can be similarly intense), as they are both EXTEREME method actors. It could be VERY interesting to see what happens when they're put opposite each other, both with acting and the physical stuff.

Hahaha. I love Hardy so much, every since Praetor Shinzon. He is extreme. He was extreme in "Bronson", that British indie movie.
@loganoneil, I lmao with you.

Whatever, think back to all the criticism when we heard Ledger was going to play Joker. Nolan always makes out there choices that end up owning it. I think it may be possible he has more info and a greater vision than anyone else at this point, and it would be silly to criticize his choices (unless, of course, YOU'VE read the script and were there for the auditions).

WireySpindell is correct. Has Nolan let us down yet with his Batman decisions? Hathaway is going to be the sex kitten that I know she is. You all should watch her in HAVOC if you haven't already

Yes this is Tom Hardy. He was huge in Bronson and beat the hell of everyone. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_LXF5aAEZsHQ/SjiZdXN878I/AAAAAAAAB3M/4tGKVsePQZk/s400/Bronson.jpg

The comic version of Bane was less than stellar. I'm hoping Nolan came up with a take that delivers much more. A rival vigilante with the same goal as Bats but different motives and methods is the way I would like to see it go.

I trust Nolan's choice. He did choose Heath Ledger, someone that nobody ever thought would make even a decent Joker. But, we were pleasantly surprised by him. And, Bale knows about being "balls-out" when it comes to roles. Bale goes to great extremes for the roles he gets... Like "Machinist" and "Rescue Dawn."

I just cant wait....
I think nolan can take a somewhat generic character like Bane and turn him into a top villian. I bet the comics take note and make him into a better bane than in the comics.

Hey you guys see the write up they did on io9?
Put together the entire history of bane...I assumed someone would post it over here in a different fashion.

Check it.

Dave Batista should be Bane!

Maybe Nolan means this is the end of the story in a less literal sense. Like for the beginning of Batman, this is the story told in three parts. This is the last one and maybe he'll be open to continuing the story of Batman in the future. There can be many of reasons why he picked Bane, but knowing how many people see the character as being an outrageous roid-raged baddie, mostly due to Batman and Robin, the character brushes with being part of Batman's rogue's gallery that Nolan considered to be too campy, like Mr. Freeze, etc. Any dang way, maybe he's becoming more open to other characters in Bat's rogue gallery and realizes that with a little work he could make almost any of Batman's characters be believable, realistic and in good taste. Maybe one day we'll get to see Patrick Stewart as Mr. Freeze or Christina Hendricks, Poison Ivy, Mel Gibson as Clayface. Glad Bale is open for more though!

Yeah, Batista's got the body for it, but seriously....no wrestlers in the movies please. They just can't act. They can perform very well, but as far as serious acting? no.

@loganoneill: Right on! you put your finger on what I've been trying to articulate about why I am optimistic with Hardy as Bane. Hardy brings that intensity that I always picture Bane having. I still think Knightfall is an underrated Batman story. I know it's hyped for Batman's back being broken, but I thought the whole storyline was so intense and layered and well-done. And I thought it really introduced Bane as one of Bats' most formidable villains...

After Nolan is done with Batman, they better not rush another franchise out. The last thing they need to try to do is upstage Nolan as soon as they can.

GUYS, IF YOU'RE RELUCTANT ABOUT BANE, READ THE NOVEL KNIGHTFALL. NOT THE GRAPHIC NOVEL, BUT THE ACTUAL WRITTEN BOOK WITH NO PICTURES.

Hardcover ISBN 0-553-09673-7, Paperback ISBN 0-553-57260-1).

IT'S AWESOME. YOU'LL BE UP PAST 3 READING IT. THEN YOU'LL UNDERSTAND HOW BANE CAN FIT INTO THE NOLAN BATMAN MYTHOS

Shocker - I'm guessing we will see Catwoman towards the end of the movie because he did the same thing with Henry Ducard and revealed him as Ra's Al Ghul, and the same thing with Harvey Dent as Two-Face. It seems like that they transformed into their character after something tragic happened to them earlier in the movie, so either Bane or catwoman will be in costume towards the end of the movie, I don't think both though.

And I'm still skeptical with Bane being in this movie, I just don't see it working out too good but who knows this may be like a batman begins type of movie instead of TDK.

I just hope they do the Bane character right - an intelligent villan and not the grunting muscle-bound moron in 'Batman & Robin!'. Waitasec, it's NOLAN directing - he wouldn't get someone of Hardy's caliber to do 'huge stupid thug'. If that were the case, someone like Triple H would have been hired!

@Optimus83 If it'll still be a part of Nolan's series, then he shouldn't bother with Joker. Having someone else mess up what Heath Ledger had perfectly wouldn't do too well.
@grif Fail post. Just fail.

Anyways, Nolan has said more than twice that this should be his last Batman movie, so I'd be surprised if he decides to do a #4.
