Miranda Tate is who? Talia Al Ghul? Maybe, or maybe she is another person from Batman’s history. Maybe she is…(click link to read more)

First of all, I want to state that a lot of people out there may toss my idea aside because right now it is so widely accepted that Marion Cotillard’s character, Miranda Tate, IS Talia Al Ghul. I would like to purpose an alternative, but keep in mind, I still highly believe that Talia Al Ghul is very possible.

The other possibility for Miranda Tate, I believe, is Lady Shiva. Now for those of you who know this character, you may see where this idea is coming from. As for others, you are probably on Wikipedia right now or hoping that I will explain. So I will.

This is a really quick explanation and most of it comes straight from Wikipedia since there was a short enough explanation. I am also going to list a sequence of events in how this role could play in to The Dark Knight Rises.

1: Bane breaks Batman’s back.
2: Batman recovers slowly with the help of a doctor or doctors.
3: Batman needs some kind of rehab, but any normal rehab is just not good enough for Batman.
4: Batman seeks training from someone, this someone is Shiva.

A little history for you about Shiva: She grew up in an unknown country and was raised to be a warrior and protector of her village. It is also said that Ra’s Al Ghul’s League of Assassins, you know, from Batman Begins, they ran this village that Shiva grew up in.

Anyway, I don’t need to make a large article for you, this is just a hypothesis that is probably false, but an interesting idea none the less. Especially since speculation is going around of JGL’s character being Azrael. If this is so, while Azrael takes over Batman’s position in Gotham, Bruce Wayne could possibly be training with Shiva. Also on Azrael, he is the one who defeats Bane and then begins to like this role he has taken over, therefore Bruce Wayne must fight him one last time in the Bat Cave to reclaim his title as Batman.

THINK ABOUT THIS!!! Batman falls in The Dark Knight but he really becomes nothing when Bane breaks his back. He becomes crippled and can no longer defend Gotham and therefore Azrael takes over. Bruce then starts to heal and slowly retrains himself with the help of Shiva. Becoming stronger and more as he once was 8 years prior in The Dark Knight. He then makes the final transformation to Batman after defeating Azrael and hence forth…..wait for it….RISES.

That is all I wanted to say about that. I hope, if nothing else, you found the idea entertaining. I understand that most likely Marion Cotillard will not be playing Shiva, but rather Talia Al Ghul, and that in itself will be a great story. I just really got excited when I heard that Azrael could be in this movie. So this was my way of sharing, an alternative plot.

Also, Shiva helps Batman go to India to stop some sort of virus being released that could kill a large population. Remember they began filming in India? Anyway, enough of that. I hope you found this fun, although probably not likely.

I like it. I think its a little stretch and certain things would have to fall in to place, but Nolan has a tendency to pull something like this out of nowhere, and it almost always works. However, I still hope she is Talia personally.

@supersayianfan1: Apparently, race doesn't matter. After all, "the whitest of the [Norse] gods" can be played by a black guy. JK but not really.

@yossarian: I have two things to say.
First, the movie, "Thor", was based off the comic books. The comic books are based off Norse mythology. The movie is indirectly based off Norse mythology.

Second, Idris Elba didn't take me out of the movie. I know you weren't talking to me when you addressed this issue, but I just wanted to clarify. I actually really liked Idris Elba in the part. He was given a less prominant role, yet it was one of the best performances in the movie. Elba is a really good actor, and there is no denying it.

I was just making a statement/joke pertaining to the casting of a character based on their race. It doesn't seem anybody cares anymore, unless the character is a really big character. Examples of this include Spider-Man and Superman as both heroes have had a black guy in the running for being the character. If the character isn't as popular, then it doesn't seem to matter. Examples might include Heimdall and Lady Shiva. The comment I made was more an observation than anything else. It was an observation that I thought might get some laughs.

Personally, I'm against people being cast in a role when they do not fit the physical appearance and race. I'm also against reboots, but I may still watch and enjoy the reboot. My favorite superhero movie of all time is "The Dark Knight", and it is part of a reboot. The same applies to race changing.

In the end, studios can't really have a movie or tv show anymore without a black person as an actor. Despite the fact, people still love the "Lord of the Rings" movies and "Mad Men" the tv series. Neither of those has a black actor. Instead of being examples, the casting of those two projects go unnoticed, and race continues to have a giant part in tv shows and films.

hahaha... I was reading these comments and totally forgot what this article was even about.

Shiva - well Shiva is definitely more of a Birds of Prey character, an enemy and sometimes unconventional ally of Black Canary. I'd say she has just as much to do with Batman as Solomon Grundy has to do with Hal Jordon.

I am a slight bit concerned though. Marion Cotillard was interviewed by Josh Wigler and claimed that she was playing a character NOT from the comics, and twice denied that she was lying. Of course, she could technically still be telling the truth AND be playing Talia, as Miranda Tate is NOT in the comics, but Miranda could just be a whole other identity.

BUT.... if she is playing Miranda Tate and not Talia, and not Shiva, then I would be incredibly disappointed. It's a lot like Joseph Gordon Levitt. His character is John Blake, who is not in the comics, yet he got a close-up in the trailer. Nearly everyone is on board with the notion that John Blake will evolve into a larger character, with a popular theory being Azrael. I'm a bit indifferent on that, as I don't have a single comic with Azrael and his character bios on Wikis don't read especially interesting.

I think to have Marion and Joseph playing important roles in a movie based on a comic book, and largely based on a bunch of that comic book's popular stories (Knightfall, No Man's Land) and have them have NO connection to anyone in said comic book would just be a waste of potential. We don't want to see that waste any more than we want to see John Carter flop at the box office, so we hold out hope that they are indeed, assuming or planning on assuming different identities.

There's definitely a lot to go on with the Talia idea, and I'm sticking to my guns on that one - but John Blake will likely just be John Blake. I would reason that he will be John Blake probably for the same reason Ramirez wasn't Detective Renee Montoya - Nolan and/or DC wanted to go a different route with the character that may indeed have been prohibitive of any future film establishment.

Good article. That is a very interesting theory.

And it does fit pretty will with some of the plot of TDKR. My is money on Marion Cotillard being Talia Al Ghul, but it is still an interesting theory, none the less. :)

Wow... at some of the comments in here...

@SamWinchester & mgeoff88: I really don't see how my comments are racist. My white power comment was a joke, by the way. I thought Yossarian was joking with me at first. I was trying to go along with the joke of me being racist. I found out later that he thinks I really am racist. If you guys find my comment offensive or inconsiderate, then why don't yall report me. The troll system is here for a reason. If I truely am being racist then, maybey, yall should report me, and yall can let Galactus handle things. Does that sound like a deal. I don't normally get mad when people report me. I try to look at things from their perspective. I try to figure out their reasoning, and give them the benefit of the doubt. If you don't want to report me, then can you explain to me how my comment qualifies as racism? Thank you for listening.

@Tainted87: No, I don't believe Marion Cotillard will play Lady Shiva. There is not enough evidence of that; however the evidence that she is playing Talia al Ghul is overwhelming. Are you happy now that I've conformed top how you think the comments section should work?

@Rondz123 I think you're taking the whole PC thing bit far. Superman is an iconic figure and will always be white in my mind very much in the same way that I would struggle with a black James Bond or a white Shaft.

@golden123 "Apparently, race doesn't matter. After all, "the whitest of the [Norse] gods" can be played by a black guy. JK but not really."

"WHITE POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JK but not really. "

How is anyone not supposed to take those as some kind of racial biased? Especially when you say "JK but not really." That implies you're not joking, but you are in fact serious.

I thought Idris Elba did a great job as Heimdall, in know way did him not being white, take me out of the movie. The only thing that would take me out of a movie is an actor's bad performance, not the color of their skin.

Also, the whole "White Power" bullshit makes me ashamed to be white. If you're proud of your heritage, that's fine: you can have English pride, Irish pride, German pride, Scottish pride, Italian pride etc. But that phrase deems that white people are superior to all other races, when we are not. We are all equals.

It's just something thought up by neo-nazis, white supremacists, and what ever other white racist pieces of trash you can think of. If you were really joking, you should think about the difference between being funny and being offensive.

Maybe she is Talia Al Ghul; that would be cool. The part where Azrael is taking over for Batman sounds very unlikely. I mean come on, this is Batman's last film, he'll definitely be having a lot of screen time in TDKR.

Isn't it possible that Miranda Tate is more of an interpretation of Talia Al Ghul/Lady Shiva? I mean, in Nolan's universe it is unlikely that Bruce Wayne would find someone who has comparable resources to him. How many billionaire crimefighters are there? It seems to me that Miranda Tate may be the character they created to kind of (cheaply) fill the void of Talia Al Ghul. You know, the companion Bruce Wayne needs through the tough times.

Same goes with JGL and Azrael. Maybe John Blake isn't going to be a full-fledged hero like Azrael, but is just a cheap fill-in to enhance the storyline?

Either way, I think the fans would be pleased. The characters would become a realistic interpretation without ever going so far as to actually being the character. Seems justifiable to me.
