The Batman was released in theaters last March, grossing over $770 million at the worldwide box office. The movie may not have found the same $1 billion success as Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight and its sequel, The Dark Knight Rises, but the R-Rating meant the majority of younger moviegoers could not watch Matt Reeves' reboot on the big screen.
Regardless, the blockbuster was still a hit, and scored overwhelmingly positive reviews. Cameras are already rolling on an HBO Max TV series revolving around The Penguin, while The Batman II is moving forward at DC Studios, albeit as an "Elseworlds" project.
Now, franchise producer Michael Uslan has taken to Instagram to confirm the movie will start production on November 23. With The Penguin currently being shot in New York City, it's unclear whether The Batman II will also shoot there; the first movie was filmed primarily in Glasgow, Scotland, but many places have doubled for Gotham City over the years.
Reeves has described the upcoming follow-up as an "epic crime saga," though very little has been revealed beyond that.
The stage was set for The Joker to potentially take aim at the Caped Crusader should he escape the confines of Arkham Asylum, though Oz also looks set to be a major threat as he sets his sights on controlling Gotham's underworld.
The Riddler was a breath of fresh air last year, though, so we'd like to see another villain receive the spotlight who hasn't already starred in more movies than we can count. Mister Freeze or Poison Ivy, perhaps? We'll have to wait and see.
Robert Pattinson will reprise the role of Bruce Wayne, while Andy Serkis also recently confirmed he'll be back as Alfred.
The Batman II is currently set to be released in theaters on October 3, 2025.
