SORRY TO SAY that Detroit won out over Chicago as a location for writer/director Christopher Nolan’s latest “Batman” entry, “The Dark Knight Rises.” Instead of shooting here, as originally announced, the movie will film in Detroit. Starting in May, it also will shoot in New Orleans, and two locations in the UK.

NOOOOOOOOO!!! I live in Chicago and was hoping to stalk the production this summer...

I hope this isn't true. If it is, good for Detroit.

Well that sucks.

I hope they can keep the visual continuity of the first two films even though they switched cities.

Wow. This is extremely disappointing. I go to school in Chicago and would have loved to see them film here. I wanna know the reasoning for them picking Detroit over Chicago. I mean seriously?! Why Detroit!?

Since Begins was filmed on a sound stage (they basically built an entire city), and then TDK was filmed in Chicago, I'm sure Nolan won't have any trouble making Detriot look like the same Gotham City we're all familiar with.

YYYYYEEEEEEESSSSSS!!!!!!
I'm from Detroit, which means I get to check out everything that goes on for the new Batman movie.

And I have to say it is about time; Gotham City is no different from Detroit in terms of likeness in apperance and crime rate.

I live in Detroit and I'd be ecstatic for them to film here, but unless they're trying to make Gotham look like Tim Burton's, then I don't think they'll be filming in Detroit.

trollhunter, i am not 100% sure why they decided to film in detroit, but I would think that the tax incentives are a factor. MI has a 42% tax credit for work done in the state. That tax incentive will sunset in 2012 unless extended. It is also why WB has a studio in LA. Louisiana also has real nice tax incentives.

@thegamedrex As a person who lives in the city, we will be glad to allow one of the abandon buildings to be use for an explosion scene. I mean we were meaning to get rid of some of those building for quite some time; why not have them destroy in away to help create an awesome movie.

And if that is an actual footage being made for the movie, I am so going to take pictures of it.
