Warner Bros. And Sony Won't Participate In Super Bowl Advertising; No TV Spots For TDKR & AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

If you were hoping to see the television ads during Super Bowl next month for The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man, well, bad news. More after the jump...

Every year, studios are paying big bucks to have the ad shown during Super Bowl for their upcoming films, and last year was no different. We saw Captain America, Thor and a lot of other television spots for big films. Well, if you were hoping to see the spot for The Dark Knight Rises or The Amazing Spider-Man this year, guess what? It's not happening. From LA Times:

Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures and Walt Disney Pictures will also buy Super Bowl ad spots, knowledgeable people not authorized to speak publicly confirmed. Those studios have yet to announce the movies they will market during the game. 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. are not participating. The latter two studios didn't buy ad time during the Super Bowl last year either.

Super Bowl commercials cost an estimated $4 million per 30-second spot this year.

I have to say, I was really hoping to see ads for TDKR and The Amazing Spider-Man. Hopefully both Sony and Warner Bros. will release something else instead.

This is a sign of how expensive 30 second spots are for the Super Bowl. John Carter?

The only time a super bowl spot really had me excited was last year when we were seeing the first ever footage of Captain America.

TDKR could run 0 TV spots until its release and still put up stupid numbers

Either way, both will outsell the Avengers by so much it'll be embarrassing.

The Dark Knight Rises doesn't need Tv spots, the 6 minute prologue and the trailer was enough to get the world talking.

Avengers looks like a funny toy commercial.

Well, for that kind of money it's for the best. I know I would rather see the 4 million… put to good use as an incredible fight or chase scene. Missing 30 seconds, won't kill me. Just means more stupid Budweiser commercials, OMG

Wow. That's a weird move, especially when you have all of the U.S watching. Sony really needs to give us a trailer now, this is getting rediculous..

bro, Nolantologist doesn't work
the suffix ologist refers to a specialist in a certain field. last time i checked, u dont have to like something to be a specialist in it.
So, in a way, haters that know everything about Nolan can be considered to be "Nolantologists"

nolanite suits them better

Yeah, Batman and Spider-man sells itself.

Besides, TDKR is already selling out tickets. Who needs marketing? Avengers does.

@CaptainProg: Not taking a shot at the Nolan fans, but is there something wrong with gay people?

TASM and TDKR don't need a TV spot to get people interested. However The Avengers appears to need to advertise to guys with a lot of alcohol in their system.

@Intruder

TASM is too depressing, you say? Interesting considering you've said countless times that it will be better than The Avengers. Then I guess you must like depressing films over "epic" films. And if that is true, since you called TDKR depressing I guess that would make it better than The Avengers as well.

I don't care about Superbowl commercials anymore. It's always a bunch of DotCom commercials doing something controversial. Who cares. I've seen all the trailers for all the movies I wanna see this year.
