I agree with everyone who says that all 3 movies of Nolan's trilogy where great. Considering one of my favorite movies of all time is The Dark Knight I think that The Dark Knight Rises was great as well. I have a few gripes about it but it does not take away that it was still a good film overall.
Because I think we can all agree that The Dark Knight Rises had potential to be more epic than both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. In my opinion this movie was better than Batman Begins and comes close to the Dark Knight in some ways. But I will not argue anyone who thinks otherwise.
Small changes that would've in my opinion made more of an impact in The Dark Knight Rises:
1. Since Nolan was adamant in filming The Dark Knight Rises at a larger scale I think adding hundreds of more extras as the citizens of gotham was needed to give a few key scenes more realism and life. Such as when Gordon, Blake and some of his team are sneaking around Gotham there is a few scenes that felt that we needed to see what the gotham citizens are going through in the ordeal and what toll Bane has brought on to the city of Gotham. It also would have benifited certain scenes giving more life so to speak during some key scenes which in turn would have made more sense.
2. Bane's prison felt unreal it was too small in scale I never bought that it was the worst prison to be in. Obviously it was bad considering that for one it's a prison in the middle of no where and had an opening which gave hope to the people but no one but a child could make the jump. It just wasn't selling that point to me. I think the prison scenes would have been more benificial to the storyline if the prison was at a larger scale filled with many more inmates that look like they where strong at one point but are all broken men now. Also adding more scenes of Bruce getting better and interacting with other inmates would've given us the sense that Bruce has been there for a long period of time. We could've got a better feel of what Bane went through and a chance of getting a better back story on how he became the masked Bane.
3. The fight scene between Bane and Batman was good the first time around but lacked depth. It needed more moments where we think Bane is going to kill Batman with every punch he delivers. I mean he gets hurt bad but in my opinion this is such an iconic part of the two characters that needed more time for fans to enjoy specific moments of Bane being "BANE". I understand he did not want to kill Batman but there should have been more memorable moments. The second fight scene where Bane hits the structure of the building with his bare hands and breaks pieces off and before that hits Batman with a flury of punches is something we should have seen more of. I think another element missing that could have been easily added is giving Bane some type of hidden device around one of his arms to control the anethstetic so when he hulked out it was because this compound when given full strength kicks in Bane's adrenal glands which in turn makes him more faster and stronger and more of a monster which would of course been a nod to the comics while still making scense.
4. Talia was not done justice the whole scene where she explaines that her work is done and Batman and Catwomen and Gordon is there. It took me out of the movie because I kept thinking there is a bomb ticking and they are waiting for this woman to explain that her work is done and the moment when Talia dies was some bad acting that whole scene is just silly.
5. I think Bane would've done well with groaning and moaning more like we seen in the leaked footage of the live football scene that some fill in took with there camera phones. It gave Bane more character also Tom should have given him more of a spanish accent. I do understand why Bane does not have the same origin or costume vs the comics but for the little things that would've been simple to keep was to show that Bane is of spanish decent. That would've been cool in my opinion if Bane at one point called Talia osito another nod to the comics.
6. Here is a quick list of a few scenes that made me think really?...
There is a scene where Gordon and his team get exiled they are treading the ice carefully to prevent from the ice breaking and all of a sudden Batman comes walking like nothing is wrong. Another scene where Bruce gets out of the prison on the otherside of the earth and then a couple scenes later he is in Gotham with no problem approaching Selena. A scene where Batman is being chased by the cops and he just shoots at a conveintly placed flatbed and jumps the track then gets cornered in a dark ally way and some how he placed the "BAT" there which was convietly waiting for him. I understand he put it there but it just didn't make scense since he is getting chased how did he know he would have been cornered there. If you see the scene again you will understand that the way it was filmed does not give us any reason to believe that this was part of Batman's plan.
I am not saying I would have made a better movie nore do I believe anyone on here is saying this but when you see a movie and there is some questions that are valid there is nothing wrong with asking them or giving your two cents. This is a forum where people give there comments if we all agreed then the comments section would be pointless unless you just wanna read good job nicely done amazing epic great job I agree wow ect...
