In November, Michael Shannon was photographed in Chicago hanging out with his Man Of Steel co-star Henry Cavill. Since then, fans have speculated that Shannon might reprise his role for Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, despite having his neck snapped like a twig by Superman. How can Zod return if he is dead? Well, comicbook.com has just posted a new rumor that could offer an explanation.

His corpse is stolen (or perhaps just acquired, given his military contacts in most versions of the modern mythology) by Lex Luthor and experimented on, presumably in the hopes of finding a weakness to exploit against Superman. In the course of his experimenting, we've been told that he "triggers the Doomsday genome," causing the corpse to reanimate as the mindless killing machine at the center of The Death of Superman.

It has been previously reported that Doomsday will appear in the film, so that should not be a shock to most of you. We've also heard that General Zod's corpse and the Kryptonian technology he brought to Earth in Man Of Steel could come into play in Batman v Superman, so that too shouldn't be a shock. So, how do you get Doomsday into the film?

In the comics, a Kryptonian scientist (Mertron) wants to make the perfect weapon and ends up making Doomsday. His perfect weapon ends up being too perfect and the dangerous creature is captured and  and launched into space. Of course, he just so happens to end up on a crash course with Earth and gets buried in Ohio. Ohio! Doomsday eventually wakes up, goes on a rampage and kills Superman. The end.

I think having Doomsday end up being a product of Zod's dead corpse would make a bit more sense based on the universe that Snyder's has already begun to map out. What do you think?

BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE - Zack Snyder will direct. It's written by Chris Terrio, from a screenplay by David S. Goyer. The film stars: Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent and Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne. The cast also includes: Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Ma Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince. Will arrive in theaters March 25th, 2016.
