It may seem hard to believe that it's been a full three years since we lost Chadwick Boseman, but the Black Panther star tragically passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer on the 28th of August, 2020.
Despite his bleak diagnosis, Boseman was determined to overcome his illness and remained optimistic that he would return as T'Challa for the Black Panther sequel, Wakanda Forever, right up until the end.
His sense of hope and fighting spirit continue to inspire people around the world, so it's no surprise that fans and friends of the late actor still share their tributes and fond memories online.
Lupita Nyong'o, who grew close with Boseman after working with him on the first Black Panther movie, has taken to Instagram to reminisce about her friend and share a photo taken shortly after they arrived in South Korea to promote the film.
"Three years ago today, I experienced a singular pain at the news of Chadwick Boseman's death," she writes. "The confusion was so profound that it took months to trust the feeling of joy again. This is a photo I took on film at the airport as we arrived in South Korea in 2018. We had just learned to do the baby heart with our fingers. Here Chadwick was adding his suave flare 😊.
We spent a glorious 72 hours there, and the memory fills me with so much joy. : Death is hard to understand, maybe even harder to accept. But the love generated from the life he lived will fuel every anniversary marking his absence. : Chadwick may no longer be in our photos, but he will always be in our hearts."
T'Challa's sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) took up the mantle of Black Panther in Wakanda Forever, but the sequel's post-credits scene revealed that he had a son with Nakia, so the King's legacy - and, in a way, Boseman's - will live on in the MCU.
