CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD Rumor/Theory May Reveal Identity Of Giancarlo Esposito's Mystery Villain

A compelling new Captain America: Brave New World theory claims to shed some light on who The Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito is playing in the MCU movie...and beyond! You can find more details here.

Ever since The Mandalorian and The Boys star Giancarlo Esposito confirmed that he'd been cast in a mystery MCU role, speculation has run wild about who he might be playing.

The actor confirmed he'd debut in a movie before showing up in a Disney+ TV series and set photos have since revealed his big screen project as Captain America: Brave New World. Esposito was enlisted for reshoots and a first look at his unnamed character showed him in tactical gear wielding several knives and what appears to be an axe.

Typically, a set photo like that would make it clear who an actor is playing; as things stand, we're no closer to knowing for sure who the Breaking Bad alum has been cast as. Or are we?

A new rumour is floating around online (we think it's more of a theory than anything) which suggests Esposito is playing Moon Knight villain Bushman. The character's existence was confirmed in the show's first season and it makes sense for him to be Marc Spector/Steven Grant/Jack Lockley's next foe following rumours a second batch of episodes are moving forward.

Also noteworthy is the fact Marvel Studios enlisted Moon Knight writer Matthew Orton to pen Captain America: Brave New World's reshoots.

Bushman, whose real name is Raoul Bushman, is a supervillain and primarily an adversary of Moon Knight. Created by Doug Moench and Bill Sienkiewicz, he first appeared in 1980's Moon Knight #1.

Bushman is a former mercenary and soldier with a background in guerrilla warfare. Recognizable by his tattooed face and sharp teeth, he is known for his brutality and combat skills. The villain played a crucial role in the origin of Moon Knight; during an operation in Egypt, he betrayed and left Marc Spector (who would become Moon Knight) for dead.

Spector was resurrected by the Egyptian moon god Khonshu and took on the mantle of Moon Knight to seek vengeance against Bushman.

While we'd expect Bushman to be a little more formidable from a physical standpoint, this is an intriguing possibility and there are countless reasons he could cross paths with Captain America (similar to how Batroc's Captain America: The Winter Soldier debut led to a larger role in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier).

Captain America: Brave New World's cast includes Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, Liv Tyler, Xosha Roquemore, Giancarlo Esposito, and WWE Superstar Seth Rollins.

Julius Onah helms the movie from a screenplay by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, though the director is believed to have also taken a pass at it. Matthew Orton, meanwhile, has written new scenes for the additional photography which is now taking place in Atlanta, Georgia.

Captain America: Brave New World is set to arrive in theaters on February 14, 2025.

@Spoken - Bushman is a great villain though, go read Doug Moench and Charlie Higson’s Moon Knight runs.

They're probably connecting Moon Knight to the Serpent Crown. I fully expect a Scarlet Scarab Sam Wilson Aerial team up.

This is sad. It just looks like they are going to waste this excellent actor on a sh!t bit role.

He would be a perfect Mephisto.

@DocSpock - I mean if you would give a few Moon Knight comics a read you’d see it’s a great character and this movie is just introducing him.

@soberchimera - That and even if killed, that is source accurate too and returns in the faceless form they used an image of in the article when The Hood uses Dormammus powers which connects with a Ghost Rider foe, Scarecrow and a lobotomized army for additional adventures after doing an adaption from parts of the origin story bit of Moon Knight and him then going after him for revenge etc.

@DocSpock - As good as Bushman has potential to be, Esposito should have been saved for a main threat villain.

@soberchimera -

I have read every single one of them since Moon Knight was created. He is a good character. But I think Esposito is worthy of a much more important character.

@DocSpock - Gus Fring was an original character with no history in any other media and still turned out to be one of the most iconic villains in fiction. If the character is written well, their importance on the hierarchy of popular Marvel villains is irrelevant. Plus, I still think he might be playing Cutthroat anyway given his relationship to Diamondback in the comics.

They probably realized bushman wasn't gonna be much of a threat to mcu moon knight, considering he's being treated as basically Egyptian thor now.
soberchimera
soberchimera - 6/4/2024, 10:11 AM
@Origame - Bet you a $100 Khonshu strips him of his powers in S2.
Origame
Origame - 6/4/2024, 10:16 AM
@soberchimera - I mean, depends on what you mean. If you mean all personalities won't have their powers ever again and moon knight will go back to a crazy punisher like batman, then no. He's gonna stay superpowered.

If you mean at some point he's gonna get his powers stripped for manufactured tension like the last season, or end with him giving up on the powers but ending on a cliffhanger implying he's getting them back later, then that's 1000% guaranteed.
soberchimera
soberchimera - 6/4/2024, 10:30 AM
@Origame - Crazy, Punisher-like Batman is actually what they should’ve done in S1 considering he was way too OP . They even had to depower him anyway so Harrow could shoot him for manufactured tension like you said.
Origame
Origame - 6/4/2024, 10:39 AM
@soberchimera - exactly. The whole point is he's just a crazy guy who's good at fighting. It's interesting because you don't know if khonshu really chose him as his fist or not. And the fact he doesn't have powers means he has to get creative to defeat his opponents. Like flying a helicopter into taskmaster.

@soberchimera - I feel like Jake won't really be able to use the powers in the same way as Marc/Steven but once he realises how brutal Bushman is, he has to let them take control back in order to beat him. That way you get best of both worlds.

It does align with how he said it was teased before and how it would link to a show

kg8817 - 6/4/2024, 10:03 AM
Yep this is most likely correct since it aligns with everything he said about being a show after and Moon Knight season 2 rumored to be coming, and how would they tie Moon Knight into the avengers.

Sam Cap: “I know a guy”.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 6/4/2024, 10:18 AM
@kg8817 - Yup and eventualy they can still do the resurrected faceless version of him after he is likely killed in Moon Knight season two considering we already have Dormammu and are getting The Hood...

...which is probably the version most would want and if setting up for the possibility of THAT they will want an actor who has can do a lot with his vocal acting skills. Adding in the blue hair could thus be a way to ensure he is still recognisable for the GA when faceless.

Or it could still be Fury's brother or any of the other listed potentials, ultimately it is only a waste of a good actor if they don't give him a good script/narrative cos killed after a film cameo then one season isn't on it's own wasting anything when we are about to have the universe rebooted in some way anyway (thus any character killed could return, any actor could take on a second of third character at any point anyway too).

TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 6/4/2024, 10:38 AM
@GhostDog - yep

It would be cool if he becomes a recurring villain and we see him further & further become as sadistic & psychotic as the comics version (he could already have those tendencies here).

They had said in MK S1 that Bushman in this version was his former commanding officer turned mercenary who hired Marc for his crew after he got discharged so I could very much see Esposito in that kind of role.
