BOX OFFICE: CAPTAIN AMERICA: TWS Opens Huge After Thursday Night Showings
Marvel's Captain America sequel took in a massive $10.2M from last night's screenings, beating Thor: The Dark World's opening figures, and may well be on track to scoring the top April opening of all time. More after the jump.
As I've said before, it'd really only be news if a Marvel movie didn't make a big splash at the BO, but they've outdone themselves this time. Captain America: The Winter Soldier made a very impressive $10.2 million last night from early screenings (Note: Not just midnights). This puts the Marvel sequel on track to scoring the top April opening of all time -- with a possibility that it may even approach $100 million. It also beat the last Marvel flick, Thor: The Dark World, which took in $7.1 million in Thursday night grosses, as well as the likes of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug ($8.8M) and Divergent ($4.9M). Does this mean Captain America 3 could be considered a real threat to Warner Bros. Man Of Steel sequel? You'd have to think so!
